This one is top secret! My boyfriends birthday is coming up and he said he’s always wanted one of my originals so I’m making him a painting. Due to an inside joke I call him my little owl sometimes, so I thought I’d paint a little concrete owl. And I KNOW it looks like it’s pooping right now, that’s going to be a flower I swear. I just started this yesterday and can’t believe how far along I am already. Guess I work way faster when there’s no commission pressure.

Value Bases: This is something I’ve seen other artists do and have been dying to try. It can be done traditionally or digitally, with traditional obviously being a bit more tricky. I get asked a lot how I blend with acrylics because the paint dries so fast. I wanted to tip you guys off about my ultimate lifesaver which is this stuff in the picture- satin glazing liquid by golden. This is a medium you can mix in with your paint that makes it dry slower so you have more time to blend, and I swear by it. It’s about $12 for a bottle and the bottle lasts me for at least a year because a little goes a long way. Another tip for smooth paintings is to paint on mdf board inste...

Just wanted to show what the first few layers on a painting look like, left is the digital mock up for what this will be and right is the actual painting. I call this the ugly duckling phase because it does not look good and I usually tell my self very mean things during this stage. I wanted people to see it in case they every get discouraged during their art, everything starts out kind of wonky but it gets there in the end I promise! :D

I am not a fancy person, I don't own any expensive equipment or software (except this new swanky ipad I just bought and love!) Just thought I'd share something that my social media pretty much never see's: commission sketches.
