Flash vs Toon Boom

Most Toon Boom recommendations I've seen abruptly state "It is better and superior and you should switch if you animate in Flash"

I don't agree with that one-size-fits-all assessment one bit, especially considering the 'ideal' version of the program costs $2000 or about $70 a month. At that cost it better be a better program.

quick update to the page

I've decided to hide the amount received per month in pledges.

I'll be more than happy to tell people the number privately, but on a public page I feel like people see any number above $300 and think 'oh that's enough to live on they're making more than enough' which isn't even remotely true. TB Animation Test 3 - Cesil

Last animation test before my trial's up. Testing out animating an infinitely more complex (limb-wise) character.

Conclusion? Conventional bones in Toon Boom still suck. Not as bad as Flash's, but they're still shit. The only good bones in TB are curve and shape deformers.

IKs however? They actually work well in specific scenarios. I wouldn't want them for general animation, but they made posing the legs much more manageable. And oddly enough IKs in Harmony have NOTHING to do with bones ...

Toon Boom Test 01

A simple animation.

Truth be told, Toon Boom has yet to prove more optimal to me. I have Z axis manipulation, so I can move stuff forward and back easily, which is very nice--however, some differences in the way it handles keyframes and tweening means I have to be a lot more specific with what I do and I have to make edits at the frame itself rather than somewhere on the in between.

While this might look decent, I could literally make this exact same animation in flash in about a quarter...

Finally able to do things in Toonboom that I couldn't even remotely do in Flash.

Progress in ToonBoom has been less than optimal. The program does a lot of cool things, but it also does a lot of sinfully stupid ones as well.

Premium better blast my nuts off when I get to its trial for me to consider getting it at this point, cause atm Advanced looks no more functional than flash.
