New way of doing the Monthly OC Sketches!

Post your OCs in the new chat I made for the Occasion ! Each month i'll send another message. Both Image and Text refs are allowed. I'll pick the ones I like, i'll keep it rotating, and for those who want, i'll explain why i didn't pick yours. I won't draw the same OCs 2 times in a row.

A little comment on my process now. Sometimes I don't use references, sometimes I do, and sometimes I really heavily do, like in this one. If you wanna be an artist, and you wanna be a good one, you have to know where your reference makes you better and where it becomes a crutch for your lack of skill. The FINAL VERSION IS HERE !!!

my main hic with this artwork is that the distinction from the left and right side isn't really properly made compositionally. I added some of that blue light on Juno's ass to help with that, and it worked ? kinda ? but i'm still not so happy about the picture because I feel like it could be a lot more striking.

With twitter's new Policy, i have to nightshade my art, it will be an annoying and lenghty process but I have to do it to protect my stuff. You may see artifacts on my pictures.

right now i'm really struggling with the shadow shapes and the angle of the light. The form isn't looking too good and i'm hoping to fix it tomorrow. My kitten just broke its paw falling from our window. So lots of commissions to go and fish for with this one.

Drunk stuff

yeah kiriko and juno are still drunk while i color them, genji's dragon sword is out ready for the action. I use a hard pen brush to make the contour of the characters then I progressively fill in the flat colors. Back to your pencils hentai fan !

Needed to get back in the groove so i sketched this real quick. One from imagination ( left ) the other one from reference from an artist called DNaitari on twitter. Anyhow something i catch myself doing that I don't see any other artist on my twitter timeline doing is drawing the contour of light / shadow shapes. Especially around the shoulders, stomach and legs. I recommend it to carve your drawings in a more 3D space.

whenever i do these i try to find references, i'll break them down, hide the layer from beneath and change things around as I see fit. That's because often times the drawing i'll reference is a finished picture with a lot of rendering that can hide some structural errors, especially if it's AI. So breaking it down to a 1:1 structure sketch isn't good. You need to understand the flow of shapes and how to give your sketch better volume and readability by moving the lines where they feel nice to...

So here's what I did using the references. If I use such controversial reference bases, Then I NEED to elaborate on top of it. Don't stay stuck on the original exact lines of the picture because you like it and you're afraid of not doing as good. Break it down. And elaborate on it.

I like these better than the original refs.

I added the transparency version so you can see the difference.

These references you can find on EHANTEI-ORG and they're very good to study if you wanna get into NSFW art. Another flat color commission I finished recentely.

So when I make these I try to focus on the shapes. I always have a reference i'm taking a very close look at. Commissions are always a good opportunity for me to study poses, break them down and practice my line confidence. A lot of people ask me how I get such clean shapes. Honestly, most of it is thanks to the guide of the reference, when i have to draw from the top of my head, it's tough. Remember kids, don't do some mindless tracing, do some mindful break down.
