Sneak Peek for January

Hope you all had some nice festive days despite the current situation. I wasn't able to paint that much, but I'm working on a couple new posts. As it is our annual tradition, Garfy and I will be taking a retrospective of our hobby year 2020 with a showcase of all the models we painted this year plus our hobby resolutions for 2021. Garfy's post will go live tomorrow morning, mine on January 1.

Apart from our resolutions, I'm writing a review for The Army Painter's new Metallic Colours pa...

This weekend on Tale of Painters

Here is a little sneak peek for the Awakened Wyldwood tutorial that is going live on Sunday. Garfy will share his advice on drilling barrels perfectly in another ToP tip this Friday. I'm also working on reviewing the new metallic colours from The Army Painter, plus some other products they sent me, but this will take a week or two until it'll be ready for the blog. Seasonal greetings and merry Christmas, hope you'll find a new model or two under the tree!

Finally, the new website is live! There are still a couple of things that need fixing, e.g. some older posts with messy formatting and low res pictures, but the basic functions are all there. Have a look, hope you like it :)

And stay tuned, thanks to Redgrass Games we're doing a little give away to celebrate the launch of the new website, starting in a couple of days :)

New website sneak peek

So here is a fun little teaser I made for the new website. I hope you got sharp eyes ;)

I'm aiming for December 13 to go live with the new website, so glad when it's finally online! I spent so much time working on it the last couple of months, I'm a graphic designer, but usually I just do the design and the technical implementation is done by others, for the new website I had to learn WordPress and coming up with everything from scratch. Hope you'll like the new website :)

What model & tutorial next?

Hey patrons, I'm making good progress on my remaining two Wyldwood trees so it's time to decide what to paint next. I've got a couple more models from the Space Marine Heroes Series 1 laying about, so I thought painting just a single model would be a nice change of pace. Now you can help me to decide which one to paint next (and write a tutorial for!)

Also make sure to check out my ToP tip for painting white if you haven't already: 2020-11-28 13:19:16 +0000 UTC View Post

New flash!

So I invested your Patreon support in this flash (it's a cheap chinese flash, but it will do it). This will help to improve my photography for reviews and larger pieces like gaming boards and terrain. Bouncing from the white ceiling of my hobby room the flash allows more evenly lit photos. Thank you very much, you might notice the difference in my next reviews :)

Apart from that, who is excited for the Warhammer preview this afternoon? What are your guesses?

My photography setup

For those interested in my photography setup, here it is. It's just a shelf in my bookshelf, with one of my cardboard gaming boards, a printed background, some models and scenery, a 10 Euro RGB strip attached to the ceiling of the shelf, two cheap dimmable LED photo lights (about 40 Euro each on Amazon) attached to clamps so I can place them where needed, plus an old Nikon D5200 on a cheap tripod. Very basic, but you can actually do quite a lot with it :) And when I want to take pictures on a...

Playing around with my new LED strip

Hey there, I just bought an app controlled RGB LED strip from my first Patreon payment, thank you very much guys :) Here is the first test shot, it works like a charm. Pretty cool to add some light effects to my photography setup to bring YOU and the readers of our blog even cooler pictures :) Hope you enjoy.

Next Patreon purchase will be a dedicated flash for my DSLR, this should allow me to improve my review photography and help with taking pictures of larger pieces.
