I'm not sure which version he chose in the end, but I provided him two different backgrounds, and two versions with and without an outline! Then later I made a version with the character bigger so he could crop the icon around the retro sun for circular icons like on Twitter.

As you can tell by the first sketch, originally I had Nes looking away horizontally, but I changed it later so he's looking down instead. It felt more natural that way. The other way felt too much like he was distracted by something.

Despite the amount of dialogue on this panel, I didn't change it much surprisingly! I got into a rhythm when scripting this part, and often in those cases, your first pass is the best pass! Anything after that is overthinking and usually comes out not as natural as it should be.

A LOT of alternates for this one! The left pose had a removable cloak, removeable clothing, and the right pose had various color options. :3

By a weird coincidence here's another mud-themed piece of art lol.
For the first sketch, I forgot to remove Josiah's foot by force of habit. I almost never draw amputees lol. So I had to take care of that after getting approval. I also almost gave this pic a grey background like usual, but thought a sky BG would look better. The commissioner agreed!
