The main thing that changed from this draft to the final sketch was that I made Nes cross his arms, instead of messing with his breakfast. Felt it was better from a storytelling standpoint to create a physical barrier, to show his resentment.

The dialogue is slightly different in these, and was altered at the end upon suggestion from Adryx. x3 This was also not supposed to have color originally, but it was added later for free because I thought he overpaid for the background.
The third drawing is an alternate head/face for Adryx. I changed it cause it didn't seem on-model for how I usually draw him.

The setback was because of a couple of freelance illustrations I had to do, and six expression sheets for one person. #4 - Mask turned white with color references added. I add two so I don't have to grab the canvas and move around to see one on the other side of the canvas.

I wanted to give a feeling of Nes's Mom wanting to comfort him, while Nes showed resentment. I did a few things to accomplish this without having the characters outright say how they feel.
1. I pushed Mom's dialogue bubbles towards Nes, and I kept Nes's dialogue bubble close to himself.
2. I had Nes cross his arms in front of himself, forming a physical barrier. Meanwhile, Nes's Mom is reaching out to him while gesturing.
3. Nes's Mom never stops looking at her son, but Nes ...

The "reaction" one has two different versions. One keeps the original size of the first, even though the character is a bit cropped off, and the other is shrunk to show the full art. I wasn't sure which the commissioner would prefer, so I did both!
