First, this video is super top secret, please don't share the titles and thumbnails with anyone outside of Patreon. I think it might be one of the best and most fun videos I've ever made.
Second, I saw some feedback on previous polls I've conducted about titles and thumbnails saying 'don't worry so much about the title and thumbnail, quality content will get seen.' That is just not true. Having eye-catching and engaging titles and thumbnails can make a 5x or 10x difference in the viewer...

Thank you for all your votes on the title and thumbnail!
Here is a draft of the actual video. I know it's a long watch at over 30 minutes but I hope you enjoy it. Sound and music are not final, neither is the color grade (and awaiting animation on the spectral gap section). But I would love to get your thoughts in the comments so I can adjust things that need fixing (I'm aware of one or two mistakes that I will endeavor to correct, but looking forward to seeing what you pick up on...

All going to plan, I will be posting a video this Friday that is over half an hour long and I think could have been made into three or more separate videos. BUT seeing it all together I hope encourages connections that wouldn't otherwise have been made.
I need your help with the title and thumbnail. I'll put the leading contenders below. Pleas pick your favorite, the one you would most like to see and click on (not what you think others would like). But please also leave that feedback i...

There are a lot of videos about infinity and the Hilbert Hotel. In this video I tried to extend the standard hotel video past the limit where you can pack people into rooms. Plus we did it with some great 3D animators and fun blobby creatures.
This video is really a prelude to a much longer video coming in about a week. Hope you enjoy!

Like every video, this one was an odyssey. I was making the final export in the early hours of this morning. Just then my 8 month-old woke up and was not interested in going back to bed. My wife has been sick for a few days and just needed sleep. So the baby and I worked to finish the video together and get it uploaded. Hope you enjoy it!
Hope you're all well! And thank you for your support,
Derek

Today Veritasium hit one billion views on Youtube. That is a crazy milestone and one I never thought the channel would achieve.
I'm incredibly grateful for all the support I've received from family, friends, viewers on YouTube and especially you, the patrons of this channel. There are around 4,000 of you but you make the videos better for the millions of others who watch. I am indebted to you for your generosity not only financially but in ideas, feedback, and the time you contribute to...

A new video is almost done. I'm looking to post this Friday or Saturday at the latest, just in time for everyone's favorite math-inspired day (and Einstein's birthday). Can you help me pick the title and thumbnail?
https://forms.gle/b2XDBjSCkVrkbbRH6
Why this is so important:
I've known for some time that titles and thumbnails are important, probably equally important to the quality of the video itse...

Hey everyone,
I'm a big fan of experimentation. It's probably the reason why some of my videos look very different from others and why sometimes they don't work out as I'd hoped. But as Einstein put it: 'A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.'
So in that spirit I want to invite you to try something new: an app called HiHo, where we can share short videos back and forth. The idea is to foster discussions and interaction - think of it as reddit meets tiktok(?)

On January 7, 2011 I posted my first video as a full-time youtuber.
Last night as we crossed into 2021 Veritasium crossed the 8M subscriber threshold.
In commemoration of these events I'm doing a Q&A video to post on my YouTuberversary Jan 7, 2021
So ask me anything. You can put questions here or on reddit: https://ve42.co/QA
I'd also love to get your input on what you want to see more of in 2021. I really ...

Really appreciate all of your feedback on the draft of this video. Honestly I had been staring at this illusion so much that it basically stopped working for me entirely so it was great to have fresh eyes on it. When I horizontally flipped a clip or played it in reverse then the illusions worked again so I think part of it had to do with the fact the windows always rotated in the same direction and I knew which direction that was, also where to look if you want to break the illusion.
An...

Hello! I wish you all a happy holidays and a safe and prosperous new year!! I have one final video for 2020 that is nearly there - it just needs your input.
Please let me know what you think: parts you like/don't like, things unclear, timestamps of illusions that don't work for you, general comments/suggestions. Title and thumbnail suggestions are welcome.
Be warned: there is no music yet, some sections will seem empty or flat - they may get cut or I may find good music for them.<...

Hey! So I'm super excited for this video. It's about something I didn't know and have been excited to learn about.
I am really interested to know what your feelings are - does the video make sense? Do you have unanswered questions? What are the things that pop into your head as you watch this? (maybe jot them down as you go) Other people will probably have the same questions so I'd love to answer them before they are even asked.
Thanks for your help and please keep this top ...

New video launching this coming week, I'd love to get your thoughts on what makes sense and doesn't. Is anything wrong or confusing? Which part do you like the most?
And any ideas on titles and thumbnails? I really do value your opinions. They make my videos better. So thank you!

New video is in the final draft stage. I'd love to get your thoughts if you don't mind seeing the video before it's polished. There are a couple things in animation that I want to tweak but let me know whatever you spot that could be better. I would also like to get your thoughts in title/thumbnail combos because I don't feel like I have the right one yet.
Thank you for taking the time to offer suggestions!

Thank you so much to everyone who reviewed the earlier draft of this video. In the comments I'm surprised to discover just how many people categorically disavow luck, chance, or anything beyond their control.
This is the first Patreon supported video this year because my output has been slowed by all the life disruptions of the year and there have been sponsors for other videos. Thank you for supporting what I do - I consider myself extremely fortunate. Hopefully I can also improve the ...

Hey! Want to see a rough draft of a video? Mostly I think it needs some music and audio editing but I'd love to get your thoughts. I feel like you always point out things I didn't notice because I get too close to the edit and can't see errors/omissions. Thanks for your help!

For a long time, I thought most of the ordinary matter in our universe (so called baryonic matter that makes up you and me, stars and planets, gas, dust clouds etc) - I thought it was mostly accounted for. Only recently did I realize that most of it hasn't been detected... until now.
This video has a significant sponsor so it is an unpaid post. I also posted a video yesterday from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, my first time watching a rocket take off - the payload for this one is...

First up, sorry for going quiet for the last several months. I'm fine - I hope you are all keeping safe and healthy as well. Thank you to everyone who has messaged or emailed me to see if I'm ok. My kids came out of daycare fairly early in March and we have been with them 24/7 since. See Fig.1, my kids pretending to be ghosts (sometimes they are scary, sometimes friendly, they just want hugs).

1. There will be a new video coming out this Friday. It...

Huge thanks to everyone who offered feedback on an earlier version of this video. Hopefully I was able to incorporate your suggestions.
I find it ironic that for a video about an iterated equation, I iterated the video more than perhaps any other I have made. I feel like my January has been unproductive because this is all I have to show for it but I have been working harder than ever so I hope it was worth it.
Best,
Derek

I have been working on this video for most of the month. I really like this topic but I also feel like it's a little fiddly.
So I'd love to get your feedback - what's working, what is confusing or could be done better. Also if you have ideas for titles and thumbnails, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks for helping me make these videos better!

Here is my final video of the year. It includes my new year's resolutions for 2020 and how I intend to follow through on them when most resolutions usually fail.

In case you missed it, I posted a couple of videos recently. One on the science behind the butterfly effect (aka Chaos, or non-linear dynamics). The other video is about research into slowing aging (and possibly even reversing it). Both videos were sponsored and so Patrons were not charged for these videos. I still think they are great videos and the sponsor was completely hands off, only requesting the disclosure at the beginning and the messaging at the end of the video.

I'm planning on releasing it tomorrow. I must warn you I'm still updating some animations, visuals, color, music, etc. but I think your input could really improve it. Sometimes I get too close to a video and then I can't see what's missing.

I have long been fascinated by the intermediate axis theorem and I've come across it a few times when I wasn't expecting it. Here I think we've animated the best intuitive explanation of the effect.
Huge thanks to Patrons who reviewed an early draft of this video and provided very helpful feedback. I tried to incorporate it as much as possible.
This is an unpaid post because of the sponsor.

I got to talk to some of the leading planetary scientists - including one who discovered the Kuiper belt and another who is proposing the existence of a planet beyond Neptune with a mass 5x that of Earth. Do you find the evidence convincing? Do you think there's a ninth planet out there?
