Fugitive - Ch. 62

Chapter 62 - Going Home

Bryce

“She totally knew everything,” Thea exclaimed. Persephone was back sleeping in the hidden room, while we gathered in the kitchen. There were seven of us in total, including Lilith and Esme, which made everything feel somewhat crowded. Thea was still avoiding Rose, otherwise we would’ve probably tried to gather in the garden. “I mean, like literally everything. I don’t know how she saw through us, but she did.”

“Wha...

Here's the chapter, much later than I was expecting. I've already jumped right into writing chapter 62, and I'll release it the moment it's finished. <3 <3

Chapter 61 - Back to Hel

Bryce

“She never even realized that Thea was behind it the entire time!” Aurora doubled over in laughter as she finished the story. Of course, Leila didn’t seem nearly as entertained.

“I’m glad you found it funny, because it took me three weeks to...

Sorry, update and not a chapter

Hey all!

I've been super stressed lately and haven't had time to write this week. I'm still planning on putting out the normal number of chapters, but they're have to wait for a bit. Hopefully, I'll have an update today or tomorrow!

Thank you for your patience, y'all rock!

Chapter 60 - Sibling Rivalry

Thea

“Alright, here’s the deal, you two. I’m not going to kill you, but I’d also rather not have to devote two of me to keeping you restrained while I help Lilith fight Aris.” I clapped my hands together with an award-winning smile. “So! Just real quick, I need you both to give me your word that you’re not going to interfere with the fight, and then I’ll promise to either leave you alone forever or take you to Ash on th...

Here's Tuesday's chapter really late, and I'll be dropping Thursday's chapter a bit earlier than usual in a few minutes. I'll probably try to get another editing pass done on both of them tomorrow morning, but I'm too tired to do it now.

Chapter 59 - The Obsidian Keep

Thea

We gave Lilith a bit of a head start to the keep so that she could get into position before we got there. Which was fine, because there was something pretty important th...

Chapter 58 - Tartarus

Thea

We stepped through the gate into Tartarus only to be assaulted on all sides by heavily armored soldiers pointing guns and shouting commands.

“We’re here on official business. I need to speak to Lady Tenebris as soon as possible.” Lilith held up her crest with both hands in the air.

A pale-blue demon man, who was a little taller than Bryce, approached with his weapon holstered to inspect Lilith’s crest. He nodded when ...

Chapter 57 - Answers

Bryce

Malvoch was struggling to fight against Thea’s command. I had never heard a demon’s true name spoken, but there was a tangible power in the words and I could feel it lingering in the air. Almost as if Thea had just cast an extremely powerful spell. I subconsciously looked towards the wards that were inlaid on the perimeter of the room and wondered if they were going to be enough to conceal it.

“Thea, where did you learn Malvo...

Hey all!

I'm very interested in trying to finish book two before the new year. I'm not actually sure if it's possible for me, since there are about four more chapters I have planned, but I'm going to try anyway and see what happens.

IF I can get it done, then I'm planning on posting chapter 57 this weekend while leaving the rest of the chapters with my beta readers. That way I can use them as a buffer to work on a different project that I've been wanting to do.  View Post

Chapter 55 - Giving up the Prize

Anali

“Fuckin’ hells, Ja’kol, how bad is it?” I stopped to hit my head against the wall outside the cargo-bay where we were keeping Sora. We had just finished interrogating all three of the prisoners. Well, two and a half of the prisoners, since Ithnaa was still unconscious, but we did manage to get some information from her thanks to our resident telepath. Regardless of how we got the information, none of it was good.

“Probably a...

Chapter 54 - Changing Tactics

Bryce

“Peace, please Mr. Vurdex.” I held up a placating hand before he could object. The temperature in the room had dropped even further, and it was obvious that Vurdex wasn’t happy being accused, even if he was guilty. “Thea was a celestial of Inim before she fell, which gives her the ability...

Chapter 53 - Vurdex

Bryce

“Thea, are you sure this is right?” This was way worse than I had been expecting, and I honestly wasn’t sure I could make it work.

“Yep, that’s the pair.” Thea was smiling up at me as I stared down at the pair of heels. They were listed as three hundred iron coins. Which, based on the conversion rate I had c...

Bonus Chapter!

Chapter 52 - Interrogation

Samira

The alien man gently placed binders on my wrists that forced them to cross over each other in front of me. He then activated them, causing me to flinch as they tightened painfully and a thin layer of metal flowed to conceal the locking mechanism.

“I apologize for any discomfort. These were the only ones we were able to find capable of restraining races that can magically transform.” He inspected the...

Chapter 51 - Taken

Samira

Explosions rocked the ship and alarms started to blare as the crew panicked. The captain shouted orders to get a medical team to the bridge, and I reached over to scritch behind Sora’s ear before grabbing another fistful of popcorn.

The movie Jayne recommended to me had been accurate enough as far as the technical side of things went, if a bit dated. But apparently, it lacked the action or sexual content that was required to keep Sora’s attent...

Chapter 50 - Awakening

Thea

I broke the kiss with Bryce while wearing a huge, stupid grin. “Wow, if this is the sort of treatment I get for fighting a god, then I should’ve done it a long time ago.”

Bryce managed a half laugh as she wiped at her eyes. “No, this is the so...

Quick update on Chapter 50...

This chapter is kicking my butt trying to get it written, and I've had to rewrite it like three times just to get it right. I think I'm going to get it with this pass, and hopefully get it out this evening.

The good news is that chapter 51 is already written and waiting to be edited. So, once I'm happy with 50, I'll release both.

Chapter 49 - Soul (Re)-searching

Bryce

It had taken nearly twenty-eight hours of non-stop work to rebuild Thea’s meridians. I was nearing the end of it, and the complicated process had become almost automatic. Which left my mind to explore options for repairing her core while my finger traced new passageways underneath her skin.

It quickly became apparent that repair wasn’t an option. There was just too much damage, and all that was left was a partial shell of the orig...

Chapter 48 - Shattered

Bryce

Awareness slowly crept back to me. Trying to process anything felt like wading through a pool of honey, and it took far too long for me to realize I was lying on a very comfortable bed. An eternity later and I recognized the smell of incense in the air. Eventually, I was able to work through the complex mental commands that were required for me to open my eyes.

“Hello, sleepyhead. How’re you feeling?” A honey-sweet voice as...

Updated Cover for Executive!

I finally got the updated ebook cover for Executive back from Rebecca Frank. I'm still waiting to get the print and audio covers before I update anything, but I'm expecting those later this week.

Overall, I'm incredibly happy with it! Bryce's outfit doesn't actually exist in the book, which is my only complaint, but daaaamn she looks like a bad ass.

Chapter 47 - Prince of the Nine Hells

Thea

I had never actually met Orrid before, which wasn’t exactly surprising since there were a lot of gods, and I hadn’t met most of them. The only thing that made Orrid different was that he was the ruler of the nine hells, and considering we were in the nine hells, that made him kind of a big deal.

With that being said, outside of the obvious power he was radiating, Orrid didn’t seem all that intimidating. He was...

Hey all!

Real quick update, I turned payments back on for December and it's only like 40% because I forgot to turn them off again. As it stands, I have a few more chapters already written that are waiting to be edited, but I didn't feel like this was the right place in the story for them.

So, I'm planning on adding them after I finish chapter 47, which I'm about halfway through now. What that means is hopefully in the near future I'll have Patreon where I want it to be...

Chapter 45 - The Temple, Part 2

Bryce

I took another sip from my beer and sighed in contentment. Elven wine was unsurpassed, dwarves did whiskey, halfling brandy was to die for, and gnomish cocktails were literal magic.

But humans, they discovered how to brew beer before they even figured out written language, and it showed. There was just something about chicken wings with a good hoppy beer that I couldn’t resist.

It was a strictly human delicacy that I acquired a...

Chapter 44 - The Temple

Thea

The streets of Hades were just as crowded as I had been expecting. In fact, it seemed a little worse than usual for some reason. I had Bryce give me anything she was worried about getting stolen to keep in my spacial storage. Then I took her hand and dragged her through the sea of people. All of that meant we actually made pretty good time, and I only had to break one perverts wrist for trying to cop a feel.

“Is that seriously ...

Chapter 43 - Onward, to Hades

Bryce

“Is it going to be a problem arriving so late?” I asked Thea as we walked through the streets of Hel. It was already well into the night by the time we arrived at Lilith’s place, and that was hours ago.

“We’ll be fine.” Thea slipped past a slow-moving couple, and I did my best to follow, but had to apologize as I bumped into one of them. “Hades is a few hours behind, so if anything, we might end up being early.”

Chapter 42 - Side Job

Anali

“Is everything okay, Anali?” A smooth, bassy voice asked while I continued to bang my head against the grimy bartop. I paused for just long enough to glare at Zen before continuing with my self-imposed punishment. The large, dark-skinned human chuckled as he sat another overfilled glass of brandy next to my freshly drained one. “If things are that fucked, then you’re probably going to need another one. Here, on the house.”

Chapter 41 - Leaving Hel

Bryce

“Do you have a way to contact Orrid directly?” I asked. From what I could tell, implants were rare in the lower planes, and while they weren’t exactly stuck in the stone ages, they seemed to prefer magic over technology.

“Not since he ascended,” Lilith answered as she closed the heavily enchanted door to Persephone’s ‘room.’ “He likes to visit whenever he happens to be in Hel to catch up, but contacting a god ...

Thea

“In that case, please attend to the children, and avoid contact with Thea until I tell you otherwise.” I heard Lilith’s voice from the other side of the door and slowed as I descended the stairs. It hadn’t taken long for me to grab the few things from my room, or to fill Rose’s underwear drawer with nettles. So, I was hoping to meet up with Bryce before she started adjusting the wards. But apparently, our entire plan had been doomed to fail...

Chapter 39 - Dealing with a Dryad

Bryce

Thea poured herself more of the sugary cereal with a huge grin on her face. She was already on her fourth bowl, but I really wasn’t in much of a position to judge, since I was finishing up my third. It had been about half an hour since our fight with the demons, and Thea had fetched me a sling for my arm after she sent Wrynn to his room. Which left the two of us eating cereal at the kitchen counter in mostly silence.

Esme

Rose was taking too long, and it was making me nervous. I was keeping myself busy by pacing outside of the mine while I waited for her to return with Lilith. She had made me wait outside because she didn’t trust me to be in the room if it came to an actual fight. Which, as much as I hated to admit it, was entirely fair.

I was weak. Extremely weak, when compared to how I had been before I died. Even with the connection my father setup for ...

Chapter 37 - Frosty Reception

Thea

“Thea? You aren’t supposed to be here!” Pip accused. He was doing his best to hide behind the much larger demon who was standing in front of him. I didn’t recognize the huge four armed monster who was acting as a living shield, but he didn’t look nice and he was being flanked by an annoyed succubus and what looked like an ice elemental.

Bryce had a history of being weak to attractive women. So, while the thought o...

Fugitive cover art!

I've finally got the final cover art for Fugitive back from the amazing Rebecca Frank. Now, I just need to finish writing the dang thing.

Rebecca has also agreed to do the art for Executive to bring it closer into line with this one, but it's not looking like it'll be ready until December... Which will be around the time that I need to start commissioning the art for the third book.
