Sailing the Andaman sea to Krabi

The final leg of my journey back to the marina starts at Ko Kraton and sees me sailing by Ngai, Lanta, and stopping at the night for Phi Phi. I experience a wide range of weather and waves, an appropriate last sail for a trip that contained such a wide range of emotions and adventures.

Change of Plans - Vlog #23

Chinese officials recently changed the rules regarding work visas for foreigners, meaning that I must renew my existing visa or risk being rejected when I apply for a new one. That means... I must depart ways with Liz and Jamie and sail back to Krabi so I can fly home to Shanghai. This is the start of the end of an epic month out sailing around Thailand and Malaysia.

Vlog #22 - Existential Exploration Under Sail

I spend time in Langkawi sailing alongside Jamie and Liz aboard Esper. On my own vessel, there's a lot of ponderous pondering going on. We explore Langkawi, shop for provisions, explore hidden islands, and sail for Satun in Thailand.

If you want to see more of Liz and Jamie's adventures aboard Esper, check out followtheboat here on Patreon.

Vlog #21 - Sailing from Butangs to Lipe

Barry and I sail from our overnight mooring at the Butangs to nearby Ko Lipe. We explore Lipe, make new friends, and prove a major point: Jamie, you're wrong.

Btw, if you want to see more of Liz and Jamie's adventures about Esper, check out followtheboat here on Patreon!

Driving to Lanta, sailing to Butan Islands

We sail from Lanta at 4AM heading for the Butan islands, 60nm to the south.

A great sail is had!

Passing of Thailand's King, Travel from Lanta to Krabi - Vlog #19

While I'm on Lanta Island in Thailand we receive news that the King of Thailand has died. Barry and I attempt to check out of Thailand on our way sailing to Malaysia, only to find immigration and custom offices are closed. We get into see the harbor master, but will that bit of paper be enough for us to complete checkout at Ko Lipe?

Lanta Old Town - Vlog #18

Dear Patrons,

Here's the latest vlog from Thailand. In this video I travel with Yan from Krabi to Phi Phi to Lanta Old Town. We sail along with Liz and Jamie from @followtheboat and enjoy some fun adventures together.

As is announced in the video, I will be out sailing until mid-January, 2017. During that time I hope to bring you lots more vlog content on a regular basis.

Someone asked if I was planning to develop any games along the way... problem is, I left my P...

Shanghai to YiWu and Back Again - Vlog #17

In this vlog I ride a bullet train to China's largest wholesale market in YiWu. There I spend hours walking around the doomsday machine that is China's factory storefront. Want to know how the world will end? In a mountain of plastic crap!

San Francisco to Shanghai Travel - VLOG #16

After a successful SacAnime I travel back to Shanghai. Back in China I talk about some big changes at home and what's in store for winter.

I'm heading to YiWu China this week to check out the massive wholesale market there. The next vlog will cover that journey!

SacAnime 2016 - VLOG #15

Vlog covering my appearance at SacAnime in Sacramento, CA. Myself, RJ Berg, Roger Jackson, and Norm Felchle attended the con to meet with Alice fans.

This event opened my eyes to the possibility of doing more conventions around the world - and using those appearances to build momentum for new projects, including the Alice feature film project.

Many thanks to the event organizers and fans for making it a great event.

Vlog #14 - A Quicky Trip from Shanghai to Sacramento

Just a quick video covering travel from China to the US. Now that I'm in Sacramento for SacAnime I'll be putting together a longer format video talking about the event and detailing my interaction with Alice fans.

Vlog #13 - Sailing Phi Phi to Krabi Boat Lagoon

After several weeks of epic sailing I finally make my way back to the marina in Krabi.

Now that I'm back at the marina I'll get the boat ready to be left on its own for a little while. My plan is to be back on the boat in October. From that point forward... it's a blank page, but I'll be pushing to launch the first Pirate Jam in December.

And now... back to Shanghai!

Vlog #12 from Phi Phi Don and Lam Tong Beach

Finally getting caught up on all the vlogs I had ready... just needed to get back to a place with fast Internet so I could upload them all! I'm back at the marina now, heading to Shanghai tomorrow. It's been a great trip - and I'm happy that I had you all along.

About this episode: Lazy days continue on Phi Phi Don at Lam Tong Beach. I head over to Ton Sai Bay in a long tail to find an ATM. Once again we talk about the tide. Amazing pizza is enjoyed and we find out who has been putt...

Vlog #11 - Life on Phi Phi Don

After sailing from Mai Thon I take a rest on Phi Phi Don - at the NE Bay of the island. My PC laptop dies - which means I cannot do work related to Pirate Jam. My plan had been to create a small game while at Phi Phi. Instead, I take a quick tour of the island.

As I post this video, the current trip to Thailand is coming to an end. Once I return to Shanghai I'll be taking care of the laptop/development issue, and get back on track with making small games related to Pirate Jam.

Vlog #10 - Sailing from Phuket to Mai Thon

After several wonderful days anchored at Yacht Haven on Phuket, I sail south. My hope is that I'll reach Racha (island) but whether I can get there will depend on wind and waves. The day starts off with near-perfect conditions, but the further south I travel the more intense things become. Ultimately, I have to abandon plans to reach Racha. Instead, I take shelter at Mai Thon.

The influence of weather in the life of a sailor cannot be overstated. Once aboard the boat, weather plays a rol...

Vlog #9 from Yacht Haven Marina on Phuket

Straight from Phuket in Thailand. I do a Q&A about life aboard my sailboat "Synchronicity" which is a 36' Tosca built in South Africa.

Apologies for not getting these posted to Patreon at the same time I added them to YouTube. I'm finally back at the marina in Krabi, but struggled with Internet connectivity before getting here.

A big "thank you" to everyone who submitted questions regarding my boat and life aboard. If you have more, please be sure to add them in the c...

Vlog #7

Latest update from Thailand. I've left the marina and have sailed north to meet friends Liz and Jamie about SY Esper from followtheboat. Beautiful conditions for solo sailing. Once I rendezvoused with Liz and Jamie at Ko Phanak my Internet connection vanished - so this update is a bit late.

Planning to do a Q&A soon, so if you have questions, please post them in the comments here or over on YouTube!

Thanks again for the feedback and support! :)

Another update from Krabi Boat Lagoon as I continue to prep the boat for departure. Planning to head out into the wild blue yonder tomorrow.

In this episode we rescue a cat from Neptune's embrace, continue repairs and maintenance on the boat, and welcome Alex the Russian for a visit.

Due to the high quality love story crafted into this video I'm making this a paid post. Love ain't cheap. ;)

Vlog #5

First vlog from Krabi in which I attack the todo list, go shopping, talk about the tide, and play with gas.

I have a few more days in the marina, during which time I'll continue prepping the boat. Early next week I'm sailing out, and heading up to Yacht Haven Marina. Hope to cover more boat projects, talk about Pirate Jam, and capture some more of beautiful Thailand in upcoming vlogs.

As always, thanks for joining the adventure!

Vlog #4

The latest vlog, in which I travel from Shanghai to Krabi, Thailand.

After arriving at 4.30am, I slept for a few hours, was able to edit the final bits of this video, then struggled with uploading until the late afternoon. That'll teach me to complain about the Internet in China!

Skipped recording new footage today - had to clean mold out of the boat.. not something I think anyone really needs to see made into a video log. Will start a new log tomorrow.

As always,...

A typical Sunday in Shanghai. Sunrise, jackhammers, shopping, and dumplings.

For all my wonderful Patrons: I neglected to add your names (as promised) to the previous vlogs. Apologies for that! I'll be sure to include you in future videos. At the same time, I've not yet made any of these posts paid, and don't know when I might do that. Maybe when I start running out of beer money ;)

I'm heading to Thailand about 36 hours from when this is being posted. Will capture and share travel...

Vlog #2

In this vlog we talk about Lulu, seek out jackhammer noise, visit the Shanghai camera market, and zip through the city on an electric scooter. A typical Saturday, ultimately interrupted by a typical noise.

Only 2 days remain before I head off to Thailand where I'll be getting the boat ready for an outing, prepping for Pirate Jam, and sailing to visit friends in beautiful locations around the Andaman Sea.

Prelude to Adventure

I woke at 04:30 this morning and took a scooter ride through Shanghai to the Bund. Lulu came along with me, probably wondering why we were out so early.

This was a special dawn, because it marks the end of one adventure and the start of another. This morning I announced the closure of Spicy Horse's Shanghai studio, a development house I started over 10 years ago with RJ Berg and Adam Lang. While the business and legal entity known as Spicy Horse will continue to exist, the company's days...
