Movie Suggestions

Ya'll....I'm not gonna lie, after watching Space Jam I just wanna watch something I really enjoy. XD What movies do you consider your comfort movies, or movies you really enjoy no matter what? Not a topic question. Just wanting some ideas. Thanks!

I'm not looking forward to it but....I'm gonna check out Space Jam 2 tomorrow. What are your opinions on the original if you've seen it. If you are part of my generation...it likely impacted your childhood tremendously. But...really only as a nostalgic zeitgeist type of pop entertainment.

2. Chick-fil-a
3. KFC
4. Golden Chick
5. Burger King
6. McDonalds

Agree or disagree?

THE CONVERSATION (1974)

Truly one of the more underrated films, not only for Francis Ford Coppola, but just of 1970s American cinema. One of my favorite movies. The final shot of the film for me is one of the most haunting. As I watched it this last time, I realized that the headspace that Harry finds himself in at the end of the film, is sort of where the character of Willard finds himself at the beginning of Apocalypse, Now. The Conversation felt like a gateway in the finale that gives us a taste of facing demons,...

INDEPENDENCE DAY

I caught maybe the last hour of it on July 4th, as one does. Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but this time around I found Will Smith to be really annoying and trying way too hard to be charismatic. When I was younger he was always the stand-out. But I dunno...re-watching it this last time, it felt forced. Now Jeff Goldblum on the other hand....give that man an Oscar for that role. XD His eccentric energy is hilarious.  Say what you will about Roland Emmerich, but Independence Day r...

Letterboxd

A promise is a promise ya'll. I said that once I meet my goal of 80 patrons that I would get a Letterboxd account. Unfortunately someone has already made a fake one using my name. Though the majority of the actual movie ratings are very inaccurate, I gotta hand it to whoever this person is. They have really studied my channel, and they put a lot more effort into this fake profile than I ever would with a real one. But because of this...the user name "Deepfocuslens" is already taken. So as of ...

Confession

I saw Austin Powers for the first time ever the other day and I laughed my ass off. XD I was not exposed to a lot of these kinds of movies as a child. So my friend try to "culture me" as an adult.

Upcoming Review

Okay, I told you that next week I'll be doing a Grease review, to "clear the air" so to speak for myself and my hang ups with that film. But I just realized how deeply fucked up it is that in contrast to that one, I'm gonna do a review for Haneke's Funny Games the following week. XD Was not an intentional dichotomy, I swear! But I admit, this was my first time seeing Funny Games all the way through. I had only seen scenes here and there overtime. I have to say, it was extremely difficult to w...

Next Review

I know no one cares. This will be more a review for myself. But...I had to do it. I had to review a film that I have despised and been confused by since the moment I saw it at age 10. I am of course, referring to the iconic musical, Grease (1978). ><

Spicy Chicken Sandwich Journey

Okay, I can't remember how much I have told you guys about my quest to find the best fast food spicy chicken sandwich, but it's been a thing I've chipped away at with a friend overtime. I know every content creator and their mother is doing the same thing, but it's actually quite a fun experiment. And who would say no to trying various spicy chicken sandwiches? Remember, it's for science!!! XD So far I've done Popeyes of course, Chick-fil-a, Burger King, Golden Chick, KFC, and Whataburger. I ...

Norm MacDonald

On occasion, I find myself falling asleep at night to Norm MacDonald. I honestly think he rivals Stewart Lee for the title of greatest comedian alive. He can make literally anything funny, in ways no one else can. It's his delivery, the way he subverts the structure of a joke. Even when the punchline is completely obvious...he will still find a way to steer it back to unexpected in some way. He is deceptively ingenious, and perhaps the most underrated comic I can think of. I have never heard ...

Cowboy Bebop for Netflix

Any fans of the original series out there? I'd be shocked if not. As many know, it's one of my favorite tv shows of all time. I've been very annoyed and skeptical of any live action versions in talks for the last 10 years. No way anyone could capture the aesthetic, the mood, the detail, the loneliness...through live action in the same magical way. Genre bending of this sort naturally lends itself to animation. Particularly animation so influenced by western pop culture. What do you guys think...

WINGS OF DESIRE

There are a lot of cult art films that rise in popularity with millennial hipsters and such. Always the novelty of an old film is part of the appeal. But I don't really see a lot of discussion around Wings of Desire (1987) as of late. For instance, I semi-frequently get review requests for Paris, Texas but I never get one for Wings of Desire - both Wim Wenders films. Am I missing something? Or do you agree that it's not as popular as it once was in the art scene? It could be entirely possible...

Fellini and LSD

Found this gem of a clip of Fellini talking about his experience with LSD. Of course, his films grew more and more visually psychedelic and abstract as they went. If you haven't checked this interview out, enjoy!
