Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!

I apologize for my absence. First off, my commission sale went even better than expected, and I've been incredibly busy trying to get all the orders done in time for Christmas, as promised, which ALSO acts as a double-edged sword: I was producing all these new drawings, but I couldn't SHOW these new drawings until I felt it was safe that everyone who bought them as gifts have given them to the receiver! But now that we're in 2019, I feel like it's a safe bet th...

Happy Thanksgiving!

As I roll back home, with a full belly and fuller heart, I just wanted to take a minute to not only wish you all a happy Thanksgiving, but thank YOU for helping me continue to live my childhood dream of being a professional comic creator. I'll never truly be able to fully express my appreciation for each and every one of you, but I just wanted to at least say that I am so very thankful for the continued love and support you've shown me throughout my career. I hope you all have a wonderful holida...

Colors in Photoshop CC

Last night I sat down to ink and color this. I literally worked my way through "Hybrid Theory," "Reanimation," and "Meteora," and finished up just as "Numb" ended.

It's like my entire teens crystallized into one singular moment, and it was awesome.

God, I love Dragonball.

Also, see the original image in this post's attachments.

Meet Étan!

Good morning, everyone! Thank you so much for all your feedback on my post yesterday. It meant a lot to see how excited everyone was for me to share what I've been working on, so here's your first look: the freshly designed (and freshly named) main character of a new as-yet-untitled project I'm developing, Étan!

I'm honestly not sure exactly how much to share, but I'll say that Étan is a friendly soul who deeply wants to become an adventurer, traveling the world and helping others. Unfortuna...

A Little Update

So, I'm hard at work on the next JL8 update--and this one's a doozy--but I wanted to share a little piece of news with you all in what will be the first in a series of explicitly Patron-exclusive posts.

I've been spending an extra hour or two each night for the past few weeks developing a brand new comic concept, and wanted you all to be the first to know. It's something I'm really excited about, and I've been wanting to share it for a while, but didn't want to say anything until I had somethi...

I'm actually really happy with this one. I'm considering offering it as a print, but Karnak is a fairly deep cut character and I'm not sure how many folks it would really appeal to. What do you think?

Happy Halloween!

I know that this has nothing to do with art or anything, but Halloween's got me thinking: what's your dream Halloween costume? Like, if you could have a super high-quality costume, what would you want?

For me, it's probably a fully movie-accurate Ghostbusters outfit, complete with trap and proton pack. If I'm going real crazy, I'd even add in an Ecto-1.

How about you? What's your dream costume?

JL8 #264 Production Journal, Epilogue

Good afternoon, everyone! I've been hard at work inking the next five pages of JL8, and that got me thinking: I never did a follow-up to the penciling breakdown for JL8 #264, so I thought it'd be fun to take a look at my inking process. Now, inking can be quite a different beast from penciling; there are a lot of decisions to make, but most of the really difficult ones, like composition, speech balloon placement, or scale of the characters have already been figured out. Now, you're just trying t...

Favorite Thing I've Inked Today, 10/23/18

Just wanted to share a little snippet of a panel that I inked today. I'm pretty happy with how it came out! This was inked with my standard Winsor & Newton Series 7 No. 2 sable hair brush, and Higgins Black Magic ink. I get nervous with the pupils and the symbol, so I ink those with a Copic Multi-Liner .01 and .03 pen, respectively. Lastly, I can't remember if I filled the spot blacks with brush and ink or with a marker, but if I used a marker it was a standard Copic 110 Special Black. ...

Pencils are finished!

Hey hey, we're making headway! After much erasing, the pencils for the fifth and final page of the next JL8 update are complete. Now it's onto inking and coloring! I'm really excited for you all to see this one!

In From The Cold.

Here's a commission I finished up just the other day, featuring everyone's favorite ex-Soviet agents, Bucky and Natasha. If you enjoy it, I've added it as a print to my online store!

I'm excited to show you what else I've been working on these last few weeks! Stay tuned!

JL8 #265 Update

Today I'm starting pencils on the fifth and final page of the next JL8 update--a splash page, no less. Technically these are actually pages 5-10 of the 18 page monster I had originally planned out, for those who may be wondering what happened to that giant update. Anyway, I just wanted to check in and let everyone know.

I do apologize for the lack of updates, but this past week I've been in a CRAZY work groove, and have been spending all my time drawing! Since last Monday, I've knocked o...

Hello Again!

Apologies for the radio silence the last little while. I've been trying to recover from the whirlwind that was the end of September. Now that things have settled down, I'm able to get back to work in earnest, and will do my best to resume posting Patreon content in addition to working on the big stuff--new JL8s, commissions, etc.

Speaking of new JL8, the little snippet above is from the next update. It's not much, but it was a panel I found myself really excited to draw, and for whatever reaso...

NYCC 2018

Unfortunately, I wasn't approved for a table at New York Comic-Con this year. I just wanted to make a single post as I've been fielding the question from quite a few sources, and thought this would be a simpler way to answer. It means a lot that so many people are inquiring, though! Glad to know you'd like to see me! Hopefully I'll be able to make my return to NYCC next year, but only time will tell. In the meanwhile, I'll be working on producing the next JL8 as well as getting some commissions ...

"BAD Girls" print concept

Hey there, everyone! I apologize for being a way for a bit. It was a whirlwind of conventions the last two weeks and I've been trying to recover. Thank you for your patience.

Here's a new print concept I threw together late last night. The original art for the Harley and Ivy is from a commission I did a while back, and I've always thought it'd make for a fun print, but I never knew exactly how I wanted to handle it. I thought that maybe going with an Instagram/Snapchat story aesthetic--with al...

JL8 #264 Production Journal Update 10

Hey all! Just wanted to post a little update regarding the new...update.

Some of you may've seen me mention that the new update was EIGHTEEN PAGES--which it is/was. I decided that I couldn't let you all go without content for as long as it'd take for me to produce that, so I found natural "break points" within the update where I feel comfortable splitting it into smaller chunks without losing the quality of the narrative.

That said, I'm aiming to have the first four-page update ready for...

Upcoming Con Appearances!

Hello, everyone! I'm hard at work on the new update, trying to get it ready to post this week, but I did want to remind you all that I'll be attending Keystone Comic-Con in Philadelphia this coming weekend, as well as Spa-Con in Hot Springs, AR the weekend after. I'll have prints, pins, photos, and original art with me, as well as taking commissions. I hope to see some of you there!

JL8 #264 Production Journal Update 09

Alright, I just finished up pencils on page four of the upcoming update. We're slowly getting there. In the meantime, I'd like to continue offering some behind-the-scenes content. Today, I'll be doing a step-by-step breakdown of how a panel gets pencilled. Buckle up, because this is gonna be a bit of a long ride.

1. Obviously, it all starts with a blank panel. Naturally, I have my scr...

JL8 #264 Production Journal Update 08

Good afternoon, everyone! We're slowly but surely making progress on the new JL8 update. Currently I have the first three pages fully pencilled, which means only FIFTEEN MORE TO GO, lol.

I wanted to show a quick glimpse at how a panel comes together. I just snapped these with my phone, so forgive the quality, but I think it gets the point across. I hope you dig this little peek behind the scenes!

As always, questions and comments are encouraged! Thanks!

JL8 #264 Production Journal Update 07

Here's a quick little peak at a panel I recently finished that I'm quite happy with. I'm actually two panels away from being finished with the pencils for page three, so things are coming along nicely. Not necessarily QUICKLY, but it's coming together, slowly but surely. As always, I plan on continuing to keep everyone updated, and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask below!

Have a great weekend!

A Quick Question to You

So I'm running out of entirely non-spoiler-y kinds of things to post regarding the upcoming strip to keep you entertained while I work on it, but I wanted to ask if you'd be at all comfortable with me posting process pictures of panels and stuff that I deem to be spoiler-free. The reason I ask is because not everyone's idea of a spoiler is 100% the same, so basically I'm asking: do you trust my ability to determine what is and isn't a spoiler and post art accordingly? Let me know down in the com...
