Gunwild: Well what else is a childish star-pirate gonna put in an industrial food stasis unit, Penny?

Psu: I think we haven't done a lot with this yet, but I'm pretty sure Cassiopeia's hideout is the size of the Empire State Building or something. It's got hundreds upon hundreds of rooms and many of them are probably a mystery to Cassiopeia and Zeke as well. So it's probably a little easy to forget about your industrial freezer.

We actually know very little about throwing knives, so if the technique shown here is impossible, uh... blame the designers of the holonet game it's happening in? Not us!

Psu: Oh my god. We didn't think to name the VR game, Moonstone Doomgate.

Gunwild: I did, I just didn't want it to be directly compared to Moonstone, the RPG from the comic Sunstone! I thought it would be copying Stepan Sejic's placing his own characters in that as avatars a little too closely.

Psu: Instead, we got fixated on the way Manticore sounds cooler than Mantah Corp even though they're pronounced the same. But that's on our...

Psu: I didn't do any work on this page, thank you Punchy and Gunwild for picking up for my slack on this update!

Gunwild: I don't know how to write pulp action but I'm glad I was able to help Punchy's strong work fit on our website's display layout!

"Gunwild approached me in early 2019 to do a fill in page, and was open to any ideas I might have. I mentioned a love of newspaper strips, like Modesty Blaise and Travis Charest's Space Girl. Often...

Psu: I forgot this page exists. This is excellent. I think it's your idea that the first thing Zeke finds after waking up from a coma is rotten food in the fridge.

Gunwild: Can't recall, but yeah that's something we agreed would come up. You're the one who made it evil space fungus, though! Anyway, spiral notebooks are my least favorite notebooks, but I'm sure I've put my own secret plans in a few.

Psu: I think spiral notebooks we...

Gunwild: Easter? Easter's no Christmas.

Psu: Well, for me... Easter is Easier. I'm kinda trying to make a pun there, but I don't think that's working.

Gunwild: The eggs are pretty though. The sunrise one even feels evocative of a lot of Easter imagery, people are always putting "He Is Risen" over a sunrise or something on their religious Easter cards. And what storage capacity! I wish I got cool shutter shades in an egg hunt.

Unusual Suspects, Part 3

What kinds of video games do Theira and Kettlehead play? The answer is "all of them."

WiP 12/19/21

Normally we show this stuff without the dialogue in there, but it does get placed pretty early on to see how much real estate it's going to take up... and realize how much it might block off from view. That's how you forestall a disaster like this panel from X-Men #1 (1963):

Page Commentary No. 272

Psu: Honestly? Low key one of the best looking strips in the entire comic. The lighting and the top two panels were EXACTLY what I wanted them to be.

Gunwild: Sometimes a single image is broken up by panel borders in comics, to show time passing or characters 'acting'... or just because the artist thought it looked cool. This one shows Penny moving through the scene so it lets her do all her talking without just holding still and exhibiting a super-long...

Gunwild: I like Conan the Barbarian stories.

Psu: This bit of genius is all actually Gunwild's fault. I could never quote an actual book if my life depended on it.

Gunwild: You could probably do Fellowship of the Ring if necessary! But this one is a useful thing to be able to think when you are confronted with existential uncertainties, and other stuff that won't help you get your to-do list finished.

Gunwild: I like love. But do I love love?

Psu: This is so sweet I have cavities now. Actually I probably have one... I should get that looked at. Hey, we argued a bit while making this page. Is that okay to say?

Gunwild: Yeah, I'm not ashamed that we both feel very invested in the comic and making it good. Sometimes that means long, difficult conversations about the emotional lives of people who don't exist. Comes with th...

I could use an omni-scrubber. I hate cleaning my own bathroom. Omni means it scrubs everything, right? Like mineral deposits?

Gunwild: Yes, to distract from all these emotiony games, I filled the first panel with sci-fi references and other such nonsense.

Psu: Heh. It's a very feelsy page and I absolutely love panel 2. It's one of those special images that is unique to our comic. What I mean by that is that... Zeke has a pretty cool looking head. It's very sci fi but you don't see that imagery mixed with a bed of flowers and stuff. So I thought that was a nice way to evoke a s...

This CASSIOPEIA QUINN presents us with the space-couch. Like many great inventions, it combines two preexisting things in a unique way. Namely, by being a couch, but the couch is in space.

Psu: What a good page.

Gunwild: Orbiting debris is dangerous, Zeke! Well... it is now. Maybe in the future there will be navigation-assisting shields and tougher hulls.

I initially had this overly-complicated idea about making Cassiopeia and Zeke be silhouettes in front of a big holo-viewer like Mystery Science Theater 3000. But Psu convinced me that three panels of Cassiopeia emoting was a lot more practical and readable.

Gunwild: Those space-train cars probably converted very readily into makeshift domiciles.

Psu: This is a pretty page. And a good moment.

Gunwild: Y'know, I kind of like the "end of a playthrough of Oregon Trail" effect here in the first panel, with a pretty sun and a lush valley full of promise. Like, sure it's a whole different status quo for these entertainment robots. But to their "young" minds, making the best of a frontier is...

You can be walking on air in the literal sense and still sad, I'm pretty sure... anyway, while recent studies indicate that there may be long-term adverse effects to space living, we're going to stick with zero gravity being Cassiopeia's comfort zone, as previously established.
