Wrenn's Journal, Part 1
Psu: This is such a stupid but perfect plan.
Gunwild: I thought the Mentos thing was too goofy when you mentioned it instead of just pressurizing the tank. But y'know, if you're gonna treat a tanker like a giant soda can, what's really too goofy?
Psu: If this were a level in Hitman, you'd totally think about putting a bag of "mintos" into the soda tanker when the guards roll around, right?
Gunwild: I like to...

Gunwild: Modern ads on the sides of buildings and vehicles that change and move are so showy about it, with big complicated images... I like that this soft drink truck keeps it simple and direct. It's all variations on a very consistent theme.
Psu: It was also easier to draw... This page had a MUCH MORE complicated layout in the original sketch. But I think Gunwild was right, it was pretty hard to read. Do we still have the sketch of that somewhere? May...

It seems annoying to me to bring on a young character a long way in and make them the focus of the whole story. I don't think I've ever liked a story that chose to do that. So we won't.
But the youth, you know, they can figure out things worth learning... what is it she's got against Maddy, anyway?

Psu: I actually like this page a lot. We don't get very sci-fi in our comic but I liked the idea of a rogue planet as a hiding place so much I'm glad we got it in. It's pretty cool! And there's probably a zillion of these extra solar objects out there in deep space hiding all kinds of secrets
Gunwild: Space is so big and so poorly lit! No wonder the Regency and the Vanaa fight over stars. Nobody can tell where anything else is.

You know the drill. Or spanner.
Psu: Oh god it's a tall one.
Gunwild: It deserved the extra real estate. You bring a character like Nimoo low, it's a pleasure raising him back up from there.
Psu: How did we come up with this page? I like it a lot but I don't remember the exact genesis. Was the santa joke, yours?
Gunwild: Can you tell? Yeah, it actually kinda plays off of the mention of Santa in the Vanaalendar we made, where they express a...

Gunwild: In Cassiopeia's office, of course, the model ships and stuff don't just stay on a shelf. She wants to play with them sometimes.
Psu: Actually I consider that her play room! Which... actually now that I think about it is probably also her office. She has a toy city so she can plan adventure heists.
Gunwild: Aw man a sci-fi-tech level way of re-configuring a model city would be really fun... also I assume Zeke is shirtless ...

In early colors without all the details, everybody still looks like themselves at a glance. It changes a lot just to color-code, doesn't it?

A true story: I still try very hard not to put my elbows on the table in any vaguely formal environment, because of the rules I was taught as a lil' guy.
Also true: I think that rule's the first one to go once people are feeling relaxed at the meal, and that's as it should be.

Lineart! Next come the pretty colors. Maybe we'll see Farring's bruises purple in real time.

Psu: I can't remember if one of us had to fight for this page, but either way I'm currently glad it's here.
Gunwild: I remember I had this lore as my thing waaay back... also, you ever wish you'd gotten really good at drawing fantasy maps? I wish that often.
Psu: I was good at drawing fantasy maps! Possibly I wasn't the best at drawing maps, I definitely cut my teeth setting up dungeons and dragons worlds. I hit most of the cliche...

Today (Chinese New Year) seems like the day to brag to everybody who can hear me about our latest pinup, starring Motor Minx celebrating the Year of the Ox. Er, I mean, getting ready to farm! This is her cyborg body's farming equipment. Yeah.

Gunwild: I used the wrong onomatopoeia for a French dog barking in a comic book. I'm a hack fraud.
Psu: It was really cute thought it does strain some credulity in our pantsless space comic that the dogs sound different in french than in English.
Gunwild: It's fun to use different countries' noises for animals. Everybody on the internet says "nya" for cats now, don't they?
Psu: We also used "Miaou" once so I...

Gunwild: This is lovely art and it totally suits Cassiopeia to get ahead of herself in the pursuit of fun. But I 100% only wrote the page for the 'pretty face' joke. If you don't take the chance to make that comment about a talking head with no body, you're gambling that another chance will come along soon.
Psu: This was probably the funnest page of the entire chapter. Okay, I'm probably gonna say that a couple times. But this was the one where we reall...

Thanks for sticking with us through an exceedingly tough month... so celebrate with Motor Minx in a cute Year of the Ox outfit! I mean, uh, useful agricultural configuration. Of cyborg parts. Yes.
Enjoy the complete archive of past pinups
Psu's computer being broken will not stop us from releasing a pinup, although I'm not sure this is the traditional way to celebrate the Year of the Ox... must be the "agricultural configuration" of cyborg parts. Yeah, that's it...

Gunwild: Because of my script this is not self-evident, but in Panel 4, Zeke is I think supposed to be confused at the idea that Cassiopeia would 'buy' anything. But it's supposed to be a tiny joke. I'll live.
Psu: This is a pretty sweet page. And not just cause there's a lot of pretty figures in this one. I think we can include Zeke in that too. I dunno if you could actually just buy something that good. Even in the space future.
Gunwild:...

Psu: Oh this page is great. Why do we have to be tired when discussing this one?
Gunwild: All right, that's a pretty baller reveal. I know I definitely worked on how to script this and tried to have good jokes, but I'm betting I felt like I couldn't match up with the overall gag of Motor Minx being a head in panel 5.
Psu: There's a lot of fun on this page. And judging by some of the comments we got, the page got the exact reaction...

Gunwild: Look at all those glowy little sciences.
Psu: Ya know... it's not usually really good form to have to have a character be like... "Oh hey, it's so and so the audience barely sorta met once about three years ago." But here it's not that unreasonable. Cassiopeia's just answering a phone call and telling Zeke who it is! "It's that one person you never met but I have a photographic memory about all my rival's significant others."
Gunw...

Gunwild: Even in a tense cover of gun-pointing and menacing shadows, Cassiopeia sticks out her tongue to aim.
Psu: Okay, I gotta say, I'm still pretty proud of this cover. The dynamic angle. The title. The way we have JUST enough information to know it appears to be Motor Minx in the shadows. I liked the comments on this cover, cause it was just enough misdirection. We got to reference a totally different science fiction story, but then our actual plot ...
