This one is gonna switch around the very first comic cover, which had Cassiopeia under a star-blankie with a Maddy doll. Are those kinda blankets warm? One assumes that they reach a temperature hot enough to convert hydrogen into other elements...

Psu: Ballsy, Maddy.
Gunwild: Don't blame Psu for that GIANT NBA VERTICAL LEAP Maddy has, I am the one who wrote it in. Because I think it still looks awesome.
Psu: It does look pretty cool, and probably shows Maddy has a lot more leg strength than she lets on. But really that's more of an exaggeration for visual drama. Which this page has a lot of.
Gunwild: Like Feti no-selling Maddy's impressive opening gam...

Important stuff about why our comic is behind and Patreon posts are coming out starting today, which is later than usual:
I (Gunwild) had the good news this week that I tested negative for COVID-19. So, despite all the things very wrong with me, I can take some comfort in that!
What discomforts me greatly, though, is that because am out of state and in the mountains right now, the internet is proving even less reliable than usual. I'm hav...

Gunwild: Well, at least the nape of Maddy's neck is cute.
Psu: Sometimes I forget exactly how far down I should draw Maddy's hair, and that's doubly so on this page! Anyway, we're both in agreement that Maddy's old captain was a dumb dumb?
Gunwild: He was probably an upstanding and decent man who had absorbed some really unhelpful and destructive societal ideals about, like, pride and stuff.
Psu: Speaking of...

Comics where people talk about their feelings are BORING. If I wanted to hear people talking about how upset they are over romantic things, I'd just listen to every neighbor of mine who's found themselves stuck with their significant other during all this lockdown stuff...

Gunwild: Oooo Cupcake said "jerky," that's a bad word. Well, unless you're talking about delicious dried meats.
Psu: Have you considered the possibility that curse words in Cassiopeia Quinn’s time sound cutsey to us, way back in the distant past? Cupcake and Cassiopeia could have some really mean potty mouths.
Gunwild: Well, you know I'm all for bringing back super archaic swearing that doesn't even sound like swearing now, so t...

For the holiday weekend, Psu and I spent the time hiding indoors from the deadly pandemic and constant fireworks! But I mean they didn't get us so that's pretty nice.

Gunwild: Holiday weekend over! So. Those would probably be good knives for the kitchen.
Psu: Something I learned from James Cameron's director commentary on True Lies, when you introduce a new character they should be doing what their job is. And also, a fun way to introduce someone is have their feet enter frame first. So here we have one of those cool low angle shots of Feti's calves, and she's breaking someone's arm.
Gunwild: O...

So much in a talky scene depends on the art keeping it from being boring to look at... not to mention conveying subtlety. Because I sure ain't gonna do that in the dialogue!

There are some people who claim that video games aren't a nourishing, artistic form of entertainment that can enrich your life, or grant you skills. But if there's a more practical ability to cultivate than 'yelling to get a bunch of stupid people to stay focused on a simple task,' I've never heard of it.

Gunwild: Have I mentioned that it weirds me out that despite my TERRIBLE ear for Australian dialogue, Sydney usually remains in the top three cities for Cassiopeia Quinn readership?
Psu: Really? What are the other two?
Gunwild: Seattle and New York and London shift in and out of the top places.
Psu: I know people in Seattle! At least two of them have read the comic.
Gunwild: See? It's ...

Psu: Butt.
Gunwild: I actually feel bad about including the narration up front here, it's a big pain in the butt when a character has an internal monologue that just disappears, or dips in and out at odd moments. It would work fine without the paraphrased Schopenhauer nonsense.
Psu: I think we definitely went easy on the narration in Cassiopeia Quinn overall. I know you had more thoughts about it than I've had. But I'm right now r...

You might think that Theira's mutations are geared to help her with her job, or to blend in with humanoids, or something... when in reality, they are to get her the highest scores in VIYYOGAEMS! (The ultimate evolutionary necessity.)

Gunwild: French is the language of professional sport-stabbing, for some reason.
Psu: Also all your favorite war history stuff. There's a lot going on in this page. Wanna talk about design or story stuff first?
Gunwild: Ehh, what is there to tell about the story? I wanted to give a reason why Russ wouldn't be upset with Maddy for doin' the thing.
Psu: That seems big! Don't sell yourself short. I'm not quite ...

Psu: A couple things, probably! Looks like he’s got a wireless signal thingy in his hands in the last panel. I dunno what that thing in panel 2 is. Maybe it’s a mini repulsor engine? It’s got the glow disks like you see on things like Peia’s bike or even the Regency starships. This was a really simple idea for a page that I kinda went overboard adding a ton of details on.
Gunwild: I mean I'm glad you did, it really sells it. I just wanted to get...

Okay, very rough one here, but maybe you can tell that we're cutting away from THAT drama to check in with Farring and Cupcake. It's good to see how characters act when they can do whatever they want, right? Says a lot about them.

Free tip - you should really make sure that the recipe you're using says you can substitute margarine for butter before doing so... it'll behave differently at high temperatures, and you don't want your goodies to come out wrong!
She bakes because she loves. Even though she's nervous about whether or not people will enjoy it... every single time.
Anyway, pinup HERE!

Gunwild: This one actually got a mention on the blog Webcomicsreview (I don't think the post exists anymore though). It was contrasted negatively with the one earlier on where King explains the whole deal with how the Vanaa and the humans are at odds. I guess I was trying to show another look at it but it's not good that it repeats some stuff from that infodump, and in a less story-driven way.
Psu: I just thought it was cute and a way to pass the time. ...

I heard lots of people are taking up bread-making now that they're stuck at home. Unfortunately I more often practice the form of baking that involves getting out a box of brownie mix, putting together half of it, then just eating that instead of heating it up.

Psu: A little bit, yeah. I needed a break.
