This has been a tough week but I'm getting through it!

Untitled comic for autism acceptance month (7 pages) (WIP) :>

I'm super excited to be working with Sheepdog Says for this comic. He wrote it and I'm drawing it. I have to ink the whole thing by the end of tomorrow aaaa wish me luck!!

I wish I'd had more time to work on it before now, so I wouldn't be rushing it last minute, but I've been super busy editing everyone else's comics that I didn't have enough time for my own!

I'm pretty sure I can get it done in time though eeeeeeee

Scary Melody UwU

Scary Melody is one of my favourite things to draw. As a survivor, I'm really interested in the perception of the Other in abusive relationships. Abusers often blame their victims for their abuse, which is bullshit, but I find it fascinating that that's often the case. As a victim in an abusive relationship, you can do literally everything right, and they will still find a way to demonise you.

So for that reason, I find it really cathartic to give Melody the Aesthetic of being a villain...

Violapse Page: Everybody Knows (TW: DV)

Something else that I want to show in Violapse is like, the fear of other people finding out. Even when my abuser was doing awful things to me, I still wanted to protect him. My #1 priority at that time was to ensure that nobody found out what was happening, even though it would have been better and safer for me that way.

I want to explore in the comic why a person might feel that way, and what makes them stop feeling that way.

Melody is getting very sick of asking for less than the bare minimum and getting less than nothing........

One of the things I really want to convey with Violapse, which might be a little awkward for readers but is kind of important I think, is showing how weirdly casual abusive relationships can be at times. 

With my own abuser, it was not uncommon to be like 'Hey I have to be somewhere so you can't beat me today OK?' and for him to be like 'yeah that should probably be fine...

I love drawing Melody so much. I was trying to figure out her hair which was the purpose of this drawing, and also get her facial proportions right. I still struggle with noses but I think this looks good for now!

I drew these about 2 weeks ago and I liked them at the time, but I've moved on a little stylistically. The big eyes are cute but later iterations have much smaller eyes and I think it suits the vibe a lot better haha

It's Not Like It's Hard

I really enjoyed drawing this one. I feel like I spend a lot of time trying to be as efficient as possible with my comics at the expense of the art (a general rule of thumb for comic making is that you should only use about 60% of your skill when making them, or else you'll never finish!) but I really enjoy getting to slow down every now and again and just enjoy the process. Taking my time makes me remember that I love drawing :>

Something that I was thinking about earlier is that I think in the pasts, artists probably got quite a lot of sunlight because you Need good sunlight for traditional art, and also they did a lot of plein air painting

But for digital art, we're cooped up in our rooms with barely any natural light because sunlight messes with our screens....... It might be time to pick up some vitamin D tablets.....

People Pleaser Pipeline (WIP)

This has been a difficult process to go through for me, but I'm finally in a place where I feel comfortable enough to enforce boundaries while also still being like, a nice person hahaha

Fun behind the scenes fact! This comic took like 2+ hours to letter! I kept re-writing things and changing the layout and it was super hard to fit everything I wanted to say into the panels while still having enough room to draw xD

Lavender Clouds Pitch: Second Draft!

I've been working on this for some time now here and there but I finally finished it!

I'm sharing in case it's useful to some people to see how this kind of pitch looks. It's very different, I think, to a normal graphic novel pitch since it's nonfiction. I had to do a lot of writing for this one! 

It's deeply embarrassing to have to write about the comics haha, I prefer to just let them speak for themselves but it has to be done in this case.
