Maude and Alister are just nooooot suited for each other at all. She’s being particularly cruel, but he’s pretty far from blameless here. I loved playing this character, he’s so good and wants to do good for others, but he’s got so many skeletons in his closet and he’s so flawed.
It’s really not about him being unfaithful, she couldn’t care less about her husband and if he’s out with other people she doesn’t have to see him. It’s that (A) they’re below his station...
