I’m feeling so much better! It’s the first day I’ve been able to paint a significant amount in a few days and I began work on the figure! Slow and steady from here, as I want the details to be accurate.

Something amazing happens when one art form meets another. I had this idea about my grandmothers' hands. There are certain tasks that often make me think of my grandmothers. That is what this video intended to capture. But the music (from my choice of ambient/ duty free ) always fell short!
But when another artist adds their thoughts, a vision is completed! Here, the imagery I'd previously shared, with fresh music! 2021-11-01 22:56:50 +0000 UTC

I did not dress up today. But, I have lots of other times that I dress up and wear costumes. Here are a few favorites!

As I've continued on my work for my current collection, "They Call me Coyote", I've delved into my history, heritage, beliefs, and other aspects of life. I've listened to many songs of the Southwest. Some of which were preserved by Jenny Vincent. A woman that sat at my grandmother's kitchen table visiting her neighbors, and played songs for local school children. Songs that she hoped to preserve, songs of a culture that she didn't originate from, but loved and appreciated none the less. ...

I’m so excited about the progress that’s been made on this painting! These three photos of progression really show how the layers and colors build up to create the illusion of depth. It’s really coming along quickly!

The weather has changed. Leaves cover the ground and offer a satisfying crunch as nature turns a corner. There are still warm afternoons. Here, a walk through the woods with the Wu Tang Clan. It's often a temptation to add ambient music to footage like this, but I listened to this song on my way, and it fits the mood so much better!

Today’s progress on the painting! Plus some random photos I shot in the studio last week. I take a whole lot of photos of various things, including myself. I don’t always share them, but why not?

Beginning my work today, I started to feel a little nervous about sagebrush. So I paused to do a study of it. While the scale is much smaller on my practice piece, I’m feeling much more confident about the textures and colors! I’ll pick up the work on the larger piece tomorrow!

Jumping into another painting! This will be the first featuring what I refer to as the “coyote priestess”. The reference photo I’m using for figurative reference was taken in an industrial area, not the desert. As a result, I’m painting the landscape based on memory. I did have to do a few image searches just to make sure, though!
Plus, I’m wearing my Shimmering Fates tshirt and matching earrings!

My grandmothers were incredible women. I can't imagine all the things that they endured, but I think of them often. I find myself doing things on a fairly regular basis that I know they would have been familiar with. Cooking, cleaning, gardening, even painting or crocheting. My mother's mother was the first to give me my own set of paints! I still have the wooden case that she sent me when I was a girl. it was filled with oil paints and canvas boards turpentine and linseed oil. I wonder...

BOOM! 12 “Aster Risk”. As I painted today, I couldn’t help but notice that what I was creating seemed very similar to an aster. The color choices vary greatly from an actual aster flower, but I couldn’t get away from the feeling of painting a flower!

Just a little update on the throwing!
I recently read an online article about women and self-portraiture. There was a quote about this particular genre for women as a “way to present a story about herself for public consumption,” I really like that!

I recently shared a "Danny the Street" video to YouTube.
I enjoy going to new places for this kind of content. What everyone else doesn't see, though, is that I usually do a filmed walk-through first. When going to a public space like this, I like to get a feel for the area and the people in it. I always aim to be respectful, and sometimes, this first walk yields little interactions and pleasantries with the locals. They get used to me, and I get used to them. Plus, I figure out t...

Black, fluorescent green, magenta, turquoise, light cadmium red, and metallic gold come together for BOOM! 11, “Colors I Rarely Use”. I love that the boom series is giving me license to break out of comfort zones! Comfortable is familiar and cozy, but rarely yields growth!

While I was out exploring I took note of the looming darkness in the sky. This was a great place to take a good look at it. As the rain moved in the air began to grow still as if Autumn was trying to sneak in without anyone noticing.

Working solely with paints that don’t often come out of the paint box. First up: Mars black. This tube of paint has been with me for decades. I have to be careful with black, as it can be an overwhelming entity on my canvas. This time, it’s so far, so good!

Little white bells hanging in bunches.
Busy bees minding their business from bell to bell.
When the berries first appear, they’re bright pale green.
From green to pale pink as the nights grow warmer.
Their blush deepens with each passing day. Embarrassed of their awkward adolescence, I suppose.
Red deepens to blue. Fleeting burgundy and violet.
Thieving birds.
Under my careful watch, I see that they’re ready.
Into my mouth.
