I'm Moving!

Right now I'm in the middle of moving, and have been for the last week or so! Most of my belongings are in boxes, and my workspace has been dismantled. As I write this my computer is set up on my coffee table, hastily re-assembled when I remembered I still needed to post the illustration for today. Whoops.

The official move-in date is Sept 2nd, and the couple days after will be spent finalizing my departure with my old apartment complex. The days after THAT will be spent getting my new workspa...

You Gold and Platinum Tier members have been seeing snippets of this page this week, and I could go even more in-depth about the minutia of how each page is made, but I'm not the best judge of what is interesting and what isn't. Personally I like seeing another artist's process from start to finish, but reading about the itty-bitty details doesn't interest me, as it's usually stuff I already know.

Liquid Courage Page 6 | WIP 2

This is basically V.1 of the lineart phase, where I ultra-refine the sketch into a guideline for the final lineart. This makes it so that during the final lineart phase all the guesswork is taken away and I have simple, clean lines to line on top of.

It's a bit of extra work but I feel so much better once I have everything figured out. Coloring and shading is a much looser process than the lineart, and most of it is me going on autopilot.

You can see three different colors in the sketches, and that's because there are three separate sketching layers. When I need to sketch something and it'll overlap someone else, I like to sketch on a new layer so that I don't mess up my other sketch, and I can easily edit it's anatomy and position. This also works great for figuring out clothing folds across their bodies.

Dredged up an old doodle I had and decided to make it into a full illustration cuz I think the idea is cute. Clara is springing a blowjob on a guy who's still a virgin, and he's freaking out about it a little bit.

These pages really come together during the coloring stage, but that means during the process before it, I'm sweating that it'll look as good as it does in my head. As you can see, even at the end of the lineart, there's a whole lot of empty space.

No one stage of the process takes that much time over the other, but lineart is usually the quickest. Sometimes I just want to skip over that and paint everything... it would cut down on my number of layers and makes mistakes easier to correct. Too ...

A little while ago I was in Boulder, Colorado visiting friends and passed by a bunch of frat houses doing some partying. I witnessed a guy doing what Chase is doing on that stop sign, and I promised my friends I would put it in the comic.

Comic Update

Work is trundling along with Liquid Courage page 4 as planned! However, as I announced earlier in the month (maybe the end of last month?) I'll be on a family camping trip for a couple days beginning July 30th, and unfortunately I will not be able to complete the comic page before then. 

I believe I'll be back late on the 2nd and back into workmode on the 3rd, with the comic arriving a day or so afterwards.
