More sketching progress. I have three layers of working on a map, the first being the architectural and urban layout in which I determine the context, placement and scale of the level's rooms.
Since this level is centered around a Cultist mansion, there's of course the main house in the middle (in this image you can see the upper floor and cellar overlapped with the main floor in different colors). Merry belated Christmas, guys! I've been off the grid for the past week, struck down by a massive flu which pretty much rendered me braindead. Here's the next part of the sketching progress for Map12, featuring the main floor of the mansion which will be the centerpiece of the action.
Since investing in the sketch phase seems to have paid off a lot for the previous map, I'm planning to put in few more days in it and get everything as good as it can get before I take it to the level editor....
Sorry for the delay, got struck by a cold right on time. Feeling pretty braindead right now, this might take a while...

New monster which will be introduced in E2M2, the Acolyte is a variant of the Initiate. By comparison they are slightly taller and slimmer, and have pink/purple decals on their robes.
They have a Mind Blast attack dealing Magic damage. The amount of damage is the same as the Initiate's Harm spell but this one completely bypasses the player's armor and is incredibly fast (not quite hitscan but close). It also takes about a second and half to charge up, providing an ample telegraph time ...

My God, I know I've been saying this a lot but this is definitely the most complex and difficult map to make so far. Luckily I'm having some spare days and I can put the crunch in it, but man, this is a beast. I've mostly finished the western side of the town, and I feel like it took and will take forever to finish this.
It probably won't tower Map10 time-wise overall but still, wew.
I estimate it will be up for testing in two weeks at best, but that depends on how much RL work pops up...

Slow and steady. This map is going to be pretty big and dense again.
On the left you can see a secondary dimension that is linked on top of the right part through a plane portal to allow me to create traditional roofs for the houses on top of whatever geometry the rooms below have.
Patched this together in Audacity. If you like Alexander Brandon, you can probably guess what the dynamic follow up of this track will be.
It's a fairly low sound, and it's meant to blend in with the various ambient sounds of the level, but if you use headphones you will be able to hear extra notes in the backdrop.

Today I will be sending my builds to GOG, will keep you updated.
And next week things should return to normal with me catching up with Patreon rewards, and then resuming work on Map11.
