Monster Sprites

The Bear Warrior is the first monster I have (almost) fully sprited for Hedon.

They  are the biggest warriors of the Iron Division (the faction you’re part  of) and I am planning to have them help the player at times with their  repeating explosive bolt shooting giant crossbows.

Making monster sprites is by far the most challenging thing I’ve  stumbled upon so far as they need extended time and patience to get  done. As you can see from the sprite sheet, ...

3D Models Feature

And why not pop in some 3D models too if the engine allows it? Although  I’ll try to keep them to a minimum and use sprites instead, there’s  still some objects that ought to be part of the 3D environment.

Start Off Progress

I have already  finished a great deal of the first two weapons: the Combat Axe and the  Spike Gun. Again, the ones who are familiar with my art will see the  weapons that I had designed here, as well as their designated users  (which will hopefully aid you in battle if I can get someone to code  some Brutal Doom tier friendly AI).

Naturally,  you will be ab...

Main Concept and Inspiration

Now most of you who have been following my other endeavor will find  the main character familiar. For those who don’t, I am talking about  Zan, an old OC of mine whose name I also borrow as a game dev nick.

The Idea

The game is essentially a Doom mod (although I use Freedoom : Phase  Two as in iwad), but it will obviously have no connection to the  original Doom other than the base of the engine it works on.

As  you can see in the picture (dynamic lights, slopes/terrain geometry), I  am using an advanced fan made source port called QZDoom. It is a popular  engine and a lot of people have been creating amazing mods with it. I  suggest you to look into it as well, ...

It Begins..

After months of trial  and error, search and discovery, and generally tons of learning by  myself, I can officially start my first video game project: Hedon. The  concept traces years behind, as I have constantly developed a fantasy  world, and just as I have discovered the world of Doom modding, I have  realised that I can finally do something with all the ideas I had.

As  a one man development team, I have to manage the whole project: coding,  scripting, dr...
