Random Studies – Animal Shapes

Long time since I made studies on animal anatomy (probably two or more years)

What I tried practicing here were two goals principally:

• Anatomy. Get a sense of common organic lines and shapes. This includes spine curves,  bone landmarks, places were fur usually is visible, etc.
• Stylization. Finding interesting shapes and volumes that can be stylized, to either push them further or reduce to their minimal shapes.

Color. I used a triadic theme (3 colors), yellow, blue and red, each hue on equal sides of the color wheel for harmony. I thought at first using a darker palette, which is more usual on various of my works...

Lyra – Process video (NSFW)

Painting process for Lyra.

Solid geometric color shapes in one layer and textured brushes over it for shadows. I was looking a similar shading style to the official art, but with body proportions more like my usual characters.
