Complementary palettes in some of my previous works. Sometimes the characters themselves are designed with complementary colors (like Renamon) so it helps.

This is a good example of how complementary colors can give a lot of energy to paintings. Clashing two complementaries (orange vs blue) in such a dramatic way always gives interesting results.
Another concept in use here is the warm and saturated oranges reacting to the cold less satured blue shades.
In this example the use of a third color, green, is not very apparent but I used it in three ways:
