Just before the Sun set

Just one minute before the sun dipped below the horizon, these pictures were taken on a very small, hidden beach that disappears at high tide.

Almost all the other beaches on the island have light sand but here you will find the most amazing mixture of black and white sand.

The white grains, being mostly crushed shells and coral, are lighter than the volcanic sand.

So each small wave leaves a new, wispy white pattern on this dark canvas. πŸ’šπŸ§‘πŸ’™

More Strange Occurrences

Just last night, we saw this strange sight near Kick'em Jenny - the active submerged volcano between Grenada and Carriacou.
So waking up to Alien-like almost florescent green water todat really did creep us out for a moment. 🀣🀣

But it's all good guys - we are still on this planet!

Sailing through Mountain Dew πŸ˜‹

Today we woke up to something strange.
We thought someone must have spilled copious amounts of Mountain Dew into the water.

All the water around the Grenadines turned a bright green, leaving us stratching our head.

But then a local gentleman in a boat explained what was going on! πŸ˜€

Who would have ever thought?!

Boat life: GIRL Living OFF GRID on a 46ft Sailboat (this is what it takes) Sailing SV CUBA - EP.75

Beautiful but unkind

No one spends time in this picturesque part of the bay. It is completely deserted.

Only near the water where the fallen-over roots and branches are bleached from the sea, it is safe to remain and enjoy this picturesque scenery.

Difficult to distinguish from other trees the Manchineel is avoided by visitors and locals alike, due to it being very unkind to the skin just by a simple touch alone.

Yet, here where the trees have fallen victim to the waves, one can enjoy the specta...

A new view makes the perfect brew

Simple, quiet mornings are probably one of the things I enjoy most while living on a sailboat.

And while we might be missing some luxuries that come more easily if we were living on land, a nice cup of coffee and a new view are spoils I cherish each new day. πŸ˜Šβ˜•πŸ§‘

Recap of recent Events

Hey lovely people!

It’s been a little tumultuous here on SV CUBA since storm Bret passed but though we’ve been through numerous downpours and changes of plans, spirits are still high.

Today, we wanted to upload some short videos and photos of what happened recently but unfortunately, the Patreon platform is a little limited for that.

We would therefore like to invite you – should you not already have – to join our Discord chat group where we are able to upload upd...

WE'RE LEAVING! - Our Off Grid Sailboat is NOT SAFE - EP.73 - Sailing SV CUBA

Time is running out – we must prepare for the worst! If we don’t sail now, we might be hit by a storm that can turn into a hurricane

What would you do if your home was on the ocean and in the path of a hurricane in the making?

Join us this week on SV CUBA as we sail to save our sailboat and ourselves from getting hit by a serious weather system heading our way.

So this is Champaign Sailing!

We rarely sail in conditions that allow me to stretch out on deck and pick up a book. Usually, the sea state is much too rough and all hands are required in case we need to change course or reef the sails.

But every now and then, we sail in the wave shadow of an island and if we get really lucky, our course will be downwind or broad reach with a steady breeze.

That's when we can let our hair down a little and enjoy a few moments of picture-perfect sailing bliss! πŸ₯°β›...

Home is on the OCEAN 🌊 What Sailors do for each other | Sailing SV CUBA | EP.72

To us, sailing is all about helping each other and sharing the experience. We live a simple life on our sailboat CUBA.

This week we meet some proud new sailboat owners who could simply use a helping hand and are planning to sail for the first time, day and night for 150 Nautical Miles with no experience.

No moment is spared: We jump into action to kickstart their sailing adventure.

Daydreaming on the Beach!

Back in the day, when I was still living in Germany I often dreamt of walking barefoot on a soft sandy beach somewhere far far away.

Yet, I would have never imagined that one day I would be sailing to a deserted Caribbean island watching the sunset while daydreaming about our next adventure.

Sailing the world has been very challenging in many aspects, yet those quiet moments on the beach, to me, feel like a reward for weathering those storms and long dark ni...

Sewing the Night away!

Hey lovely people,

It's been a productive yet squally day. We had to take our genoa down to re-stitch it and like many things on a boat, it took longer than anticipated. πŸ˜…
And while many of you are probably preparing their dinner right now, we are anchored near a deserted island, stitching into the night with one torch and just darkness around us.

Oh, we are really hoping it is not gonna rain again! πŸ˜±πŸ˜†

Hopefully, we will finish it by the morning and tomorrow...

Land Ho! β›΅πŸŒŠ

It's been a heck of a trip to evade the tropical storm. Luckily, we got through it unscathed.

Now that the weather calmed down, and with CUBA safely anchored nearby, being back on land couldn't feel any better!

Thank you so much for waiting this one out with us! πŸŒ€β›΅πŸ’™

Boat life: We are an EMBARRASSMENT! πŸ€¦β€ Sailing SV CUBA | Ep.70

Sailing and boat life has its ups and downs, and it can be embarrassing and inefficient.

Join us this week on Sailing SV CUBA, as we sail for 24h, for something that should only take minutes if you live on land. We also find something pretty embarrassing that other sailors have been commenting about 😱

Almost back on schedule!

Heya!

Tropical storm Bret messed up our plans a little and we pretty much had to abandon everything we were doing and get out of the storm's path.

So, I just wanted to post a quick heads-up that the picture post will be coming soon. 😊😊

Lotsa love πŸ§‘πŸ’šπŸ’™

Realtime Update: Tropical Storm Bret is passing us

Hey guys,

Another quick real-time update from this morning – we are hanging on.

The wind and especially wind gusts have increased through the night. The boat is tugging very hard on the mooring, but we are glad that according to the forecast, conditions shouldn’t get much worse as the storm is passing through the islands further north. πŸ’ͺπŸŒ€

Lotsa love and big hugs - Enrique and Sarah

Realtime Update: Dodging Bret πŸŒ€

Hey guys!

Sorry for the re-upload but the internet keeps cutting here where we are hiding from the storm.

We arrived safely in the southwest of Grenada after our initial scare that Bret is coming directly at us. Now we are securely tied to a trusty mooring. Usually, we do not trust moorings too much but this one is well-maintained and oversized for our boat. (Well, also we have no other choice).

It is a great option for us since we will be expecting the wind to first come fr...

Realtime Update: We dropped everything!! Running from a Hurricane!

Hey guys,

This is a quick real-time update since we might be late with our upcoming video. As you might know, hurricane Bret is taking an unusual route this year and predictions suggest it might be coming directly for us.

So, we literally dropped everything we were doing, recorded this message for you, and set our course south!

Right now we are still on time to find a safe spot to ride out the storm.

Lots of Love from Enrique and Sarah β›΅πŸ’›
