Hi everyone,

HOT DOG!  Can you believe it?  We’ve reached the end of Book Two!

Today marks the start of our planning/organizing break for Book Three.  We’re officially on hiatus for the remainder of April, but don’t fret:  we’ll be back May 1st with the start of Book Three, and we’ll still be doing a few livedraws and a live-write over the break, so you won’t be entirely without us!  Please check the livedraw/live-write schedule for updates.

Unintelligible scribbles

Today I finished thumbnailing the rest of Book 2! Only 6 pages left to go. I don't usually script in detail or thumb pages much in advance (something I want to work on for Book 3!) but when I do, it is usually incomprehensible to anyone but me. This is mostly because I take thumbnailing way too literally and actually draw each sketch about 1 inch tall. I tend to sketch extremely loosely no matter what, whether it's starting a drawing or a comic page! 😅

Page 273 Process

It's been a while since I posted a gif of my process, but here's another!

I start out with the "thumbnail", usually drawn in blue in Photoshop.  Why blue? Maybe because at art school I was trained to draw the under drawing in non-photo blue pencil, because you can ink over it and it won't be picked up by photocopiers and can be easily edited out of scans.  It also makes it easier to squint and let the picture blur together so I get get a general idea of the composition instead of foc...

Livewrites instead of MMs this week!

Hi everyone,

Elena (Yamino) is feeling really under the weather right now.  Because we have Katsucon coming up this weekend, we've decided to give her the week off to recover and prepare for the con, and in the meantime I, the one the only the incredible the INDELIBLE AAAAAASH BARNES, will be taking things over!

What does that mean for you, dear hearts?

That means a special Valentine's Day live-write TOMORROW NIGHT (2/14) at 7pm EST!

I tried to get it done, but I'm really unhappy with how it's coming out, mostly because coughing/fever have kept me awake for 3 nights in a row and I'm really not firing on all four cylinders right now.  I'll give it another shot for Friday, but in the meantime, the Missing Moments will be updating as usual, starting tomorrow! It's kind of wild to see how the finished page emerges from the original thumbnail sketch... I start my roughs SUPER ROUGH but then I get really tight with the inks and colors, so it's quite a transformation! (I do more detailed sketching in between this process, but still.)
