In this post I’m going to try to explain what they are, but because I know what they are and you don’t, I’ll probably forget to mention things that seem self evident in my brain but are not at all self evident if you’re not in my brain.
So feel free to ask in the comments here and I’ll try to incorporate the answers in the body of the post.

The end of the Melbourne International Comedy festival has come, and I’m back in the world. It’s been a strange distant festival for me; not doing any of the night-socialising at all. I thought I might carve out a few nights, but somehow I didn’t make myself.

I must have walked past this fountain hundreds of times when I lived in Melbourne and I never stopped to register the turtle spitting on this man’s junk and his appalled expression (correct).

This festival has been a bit of a slog; lonely and hard work to get the show up to a standard I like at night, while minding Laser during the day. Not really socialising but aware in a depressing way that I’m working alongside people who have been gigging regularly and working on their shows during the day.
On the bright side, I’m really proud of the show now. On the downside, ticket sales have been a mare, and it took a solid two weeks of embarassing fumbling to get the work good...

So I performed what is rapidly becoming the show TWIST twice more in the lovely beach and coal town of Newcastle. The audience were lovely, I was less clunky on the second night than the first, and I felt like I can finally see the outlines of themes and through lines through the mist, and hear the drumbeat of its rhythm in the distance, coming slowly closer.

I opened Twist last night in Adelaide. It feels rough but I am so glad to have translated it out of the sort of cloud of ideas floating in my head and into reality for the first time so I can actually work on it. It felt like, I have a lot of the pieces of the show, both jokes and story, and that heart part. It’s just a matter of integrating them smoothly enough that it feels like a coherent whole.
