Reina ached. She’d been fighting. But not with her power. She’d barely used her power.
“If you are to have a covert identity,” Lung had told her. “You cannot rely on your power when out of uniform. So you must learn to fight without it.”
And she was. The ABB had many fighters in its ranks, ranging from formally trained martial artists to street fighters, and Lung had chosen several of them to show Reina how to fight.
Normally, Reina preferred to fight with her wo...

She's going to the WOW, for fun, games, being turned into a Death Knight... well maybe not. Not if she's lucky. A few things. First of all, the time period is going to be modified for my pleasure, Ie, I like some things about later expansions, but not other things, and I really don't like Shadowlands, or BFA's war plot, though I do like Kul Tiras and Zandalar. Claire uses shadow magic, which draws off negative emotions, which will, in no way, worry the people she meets.
also, as you ca...

By that evening I was well up on most of the law regarding factories and such, including one book comparing Earth Aleph and Bet regulations.
Fucking. Endbringers.
What had happened in Bet almost certainly wouldn’t have happened in Aleph. But the problem, as I spent more time than I’d ever spent in school studying macroeconomics, with no less than 12 data streams, was that Bet was closer to the wire. Losing a major company could set off a chain reaction, and there was ...

Web of the Weaver is getting... complex. And sometimes that requires reading and sitdowns but I dont' like just leaving the page blank. So I'm considering a secondary fanfic. Something I'll pop up to make certain people aren't paying for days of empty space. Right now I have three main thoughts:
1. Exalted in the Imperium. What happens when a Hive woprker in the depths of a hive is touched by the might of the Unconquered Sun? When a tech serf accepts a deal2024-03-19 05:07:46 +0000 UTC

As I left the PRT building, I could see Dad’s truck. It made sense. The only reason the PRT would let a young teen, leave, unaccompanied, would be if there was something about her that made her safe, even in a city that had just suffered a disaster.
“Taylor,” Dad said. “What happened.”
“Aisha,” I told him. “She nearly got herself killed rescuing some kids.”
“She was there?”
“I believe the plan was that she would work through her Numbers...

The next book will be largely about dealing with the corruption as the Investigator, Coil as Orb Weaver, and School as Taylor. Your choice has given the Empire a short reprieve.
You. Monsters. :)

Okay, we have the largely non-parahuman explosion and corruptin, which would involve more Investigator than Orb WEaver (though Orb Weaver might turn up). And the fight against the Empire, and the question of Dinah and Coil. Trying to do all at once, I've decided after many minutes of thinking, would probably be a mess. So for the next several chapters what do you think I should focus on.
Note that this isn't a totally singular thing. IE, while the main thrust would be one one thi...

It didn’t take long for Brian to move Aisha out of the room, Miss Militia with them. That left me alone with Director Piggot.
“I find myself in a quandary.” She stared at me. “There is no sign of parahuman involvement. Legally, that means that the PRT and Protectorate cannot get involved. Equally, this single incident has done more damage to the Bay than any single event since the aftermath of Marquis’ Birdcaging. I am not inclined to let them get away with it.”

We were transported to the PRT medical bay by an ambulance, escorted by Armsmaster. I was, according to the statement, a close friend who would help Krewe.
Nothing at all to do with The Investigator. Still, sooner or later, I would have to considerr the possibility of that identity becoming widely known. The downside of my focus on “normal” crimes. Many normal criminals likely wouldn’t be reluctant to out me, since they weren’t immersed in cape culture, and I wasn’t drinking b...

My cold is almost over and I'm just about finished with the next chapter, where Aisha pays the price and earns the rewards of Heroism, Taylor gets a new Job, Brian finds out about his sister's friend's part time job, (one of them) and Emily Piggot once again regrets not being able to drink.

still too sick to finish the main part, but this was mostly done, so here it is. It's free to all, as an apology for my tardiness.

The sirens were dim in the room, the reverberations of the explosion faded. Reina said nothing.
Lung had called her. She had demonstrated her power, but he hadn’t been interested in that. Which was surprising. They sat down to a light meal, hot, brewed tea poured by a woman more beautiful than Reina could ever be.

The last Chapter of Aisha's Amazing Adventures (or at least this part) comes out. Here's a tiny preview:
"Sixty-four dead, workers and civilians. No more, thanks to God and Vista. I looked at the still smoking rubble of the factory, hazmat and fire trucks working around it. The city was quiet- both the ABB and E88 mentioned that they would treat the next week as a truce period.
But the damage would take far longer. The factory was bad enough-- a tot...

I was in class. Fuming. Quietly. But the school was in lockdown. The emergency was calling all services and so nobody would be released until the all clear was given.
Which meant that Orb Weaver, the feared bane of the underworld…
Was sitting in Literature class.
I was very thankful for my bugs, because running little gladiatorial fights was calming me. A little bit.
Granted, I wasn’t certain what I could do. The heat and poison would keep me out of the area, and m...

I'm starting to move to the point where I'm having to go back and read parts of my story to keep things on Track with Orb Weaver. Because of that there have been some... delays, and others due to family.
So I'm thinking of adding another story, Under a Red Star, an Exalted V. WOD story. Can ordinary mortals save the World of Darkness and make it not so Dark? Probably not.
What about those gifted the power of the Exaltations?
Let me know if you like this idea. It ...

One second, Aisha had been talking to the kids. The next second, she was on the other side of the room, the furniture going every which way. The kid was… screaming, but she couldn’t hear him, just seeing his mouth.
The little girl was—oh shit.
The toddler was under a heavy cabinet, two of her Numbers holding it up, but Aisha managed to run forward and yank her away before they lost their grip.

Aisha and Missy were both held up at the command post, Missy using her power to bring in various groups, turning miles to feet as evacuees were being moved out. Some couldn’t be moved.
Dammit, let me use my Numbers… Aisha shook her head and brought them out. She daisy chained them so that her final number, was just over 1500 yards away, even as she strained to get a little more out. Just on the fringe of the wrecked apartment buildings.
Screw it. She brought ...

Aisha didn’t mind Missy. It wsn’t like she was a jerk or anything—a little too try hard, coming off like a PRT soldier someone had stuck in the wash on the wrong setting and had shrink, but she wasn’t bad.
And man the stuff she could do was crazy. When they’d been playing tennis, for one of those dumb team exercises, she’d looped space around and chased Dennis around the court with all the balls he’d thrown.
She’d told Taylor about that—not Missy’s nam...

There was a knock on the door, and both parents flew to it. Denise looked through the peephole and blinked. Greg was there… with an older black man? What?
She opened the door and then gasped at Greg’s bruises and torn clothing.

I think I might release the new chapter early, with the Interlude being delayed for full release until teusday. The two chapters were so closely related that they feel more like one, and this'll be a good January gift.
And note I didn't lie. I said that I only had two new trigger events in the Bay scheduled.

Reina Sato had come to the bay as a little girl. Her mother talked about how she’d been an executive with a big company in a big skyscraper in Tokyo.
And then Leviathan had come. And if Tokyo had not been struck, other than the tidal waves, the economic devastation had been nearly as bad. Her big skyscraper went dark. There was no need for executives, especially women, and mother ended up on the street, before she found a little apartment building.
Reina had been young then, but...

I sent little tendrils of “smoke,” really gnats and such around Alabaster. I was on a time limit here. He might not develop a brain and call for help, but I expect his minions would, as soon as they stopped panicking, call this in, and the moment the news got to one of the E88’s higher ups, well even a low tier cape like Alabaster justified a strong response.
“What shall I do with you…” I murmured. “Bury you, deep in the earth? Maybe t...

“You think you can hurt me?” Alabaster laughed. “Don’t you know who I am?”
I said nothing for a moment. My bugs were locating all their cell phones. Alabaster had one in his back pocket, and I prepared myself. The other gang members wouldn’t call in help. Not yet. Their phones were put away, in favor of bats and guns.
A smart group would have called this in immediately. The PRT would actually prioritize notifying their superiors over pulling out guns.
Bu...

Preparing for my raid presented certain difficulties. It was likely a higher-up would oversee the initiation. Especially now, because for them to remain hidden while the rank and file were taking risks would be highly damaging to their rep.
But what higher up. What cape?
I had examined everything I had about the E88’s membership. Kaiser and Victor would almost certainly not be in attendance. They were both too high up. Victor’s skills were… unknown, but there was some eviden...

Aisha had asked me to come, at least to stay in the audience. The PRT agreed, maintaining the myth that I was merely a helpful civilian and that my selection to be part of the Arcadia class coming to the unveiling was just a coincidence.
And it was, according to most of them. I’d listened in, piecing out their talk from the hubbub of the crowd at the student assembly.
I wasn’t about to use any of my homemade equipment. Not for something like this. Not with Armsmaster around.

Working on my drones in the workshop was time-consuming but necessary. My fundamental limitation was range. There was very little information on expanding the range of powers. Some tinkertech systems supposedly could do it, and there were trumps—but there were no trumps like that in the Bay, not that I would trust them, and the few individuals who could make enhancing tinkertech were very cautious in their interactions. That, or they worked directly with a national government or major group...

There are rumors that sometimes Orb Weaver sends out his servants, dressed as he is, to walk his territory... But he is watching. And so are the spirits of those who irritated him. But when the night grows dark and strange chirring sounds are heard, the criminals bar and lock their doors...
