For 2024 I’m working on our most elaborate project to date: DUNGEON DEGENERATES: the Battle for Brüttelburg! Doing pixel art with my right hand suits me very well for where I’m at these days & it’s been really fun to work on my usual intense visuals, knowing that they’ll be accompanied by great music, cool animation & an absorbing plot! Totally excited for this!

The poster painting for my “Decadence” solo show in Eugene in 2010 - that show was great, maybe the best art show I’ve ever had! I’m amazed at how many irresponsible images I’m using in one piece, I must have really enjoyed taking arrows before everyone got into the act! This was before PORK or Dungeon Degenerates! I’m thinking about Eugene a lot because I’m working on this Hellshire zine!

I’ve always been trying to find the root system of visuals, something more complicated than Hieroglyphics, but not too different in terms of use. I’ve found similar ideas over time & this piece (from 2005 or so) documents this. I’m still trying!

I remember working on this piece at the Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts in Eugene. I taught art classes there, even though I have plenty of issues with Hippies, I’ve also worked very closely among them my whole life! I’m not sure what that means, but it’s real. Hippies have given me countless chances in life! Anyhow, you’ve got to feed Bilezogbug your hard earned money so more Goblins get birthed & we can continue this insanity!

One of my favorite drawings, “Goblin Mit Würst”. I feel like the nastiness of Goblins has to be visceral, the filth, the rot, the smell. That’s one of the central things I disliked about discovering Goblincore - it’s too nice! You can tell it was created by people who love Garry Potter.

An old PORK promotional graphic, a huge part of the magazine’s culture was Dimestore culture, which I was fortunate enough to experience the tail end of! You could still experience raw, cheap Americana like that until about 1987. It still exists in some rarefied quarters.

For PORK 5, I did a series of bad joke one panel comics in the vein of these old Post War comics magazines with Shitty jokes & Shitty drawings that I’d buy at Estate sales - 1000 jokes & the like… one of the many influences of PORK, especially in the early days!

From PORK 4 - it’s funny, I had no problem labeling the writing in PORK “bad ideas” because it was obvious hyperbole! Nowadays people are so ready to think narrowly that this kind of hyperbole seems counterproductive, because the situation is worse or even normalized. Anyhyow, also since the stroke I have actual brain damage & I’m not interested in being dismissed at all!

I drew a lot of comics from 2000-2008 or so, but I got tired of traditional narrative & sequential structure, I started doing wordless & non narrative comics in 2005 - partially from reading Scott McCloud‘s “Understanding Comics” which I hated. It was useful for me to have something to push against at that point.
