Join me this week in raising $$$ for Moms4Housing!

Howdy folks! I know you're all used to livestreams here at the ol' Patreon, but I'll be doing a special fundraising stream at NewCities in order to raise money for the excellent Moms4Housing, which fights for housing justice in Oakland. The conference will also be great and includes very important people like Ilhan Omar!

Look out for a new post on Monday! Apologies for the slowness this past month - we're moving across the country on August 1st and it has been a wild ride trying to get ...

Good - and by Good I mean Groovy - House of the Yearbook: 1973 again lol

I'll admit: I'm fudging this one. I came across it because real estate websites won't let you search for a single year, only a range of years. Despite not being from 1974, this house was simply WAY TOO GOOD to pass up. Part of the reason for doing the Yearbook is an attempt to find time capsule houses - those properties which are virtually untouched since the era in which they were built. This is one of those houses.  Link to listing: 2020-05-16 19:59:09 +0000 UTC View Post

$3 Tier Rewards Change: Newsletter -> Weekly Drawings

Howdy folks!

I apologize for the lapse in the This Week in Design newsletter - since the whole COVID thing started basically most of design is cancelled and those stories that persist are just about how the virus is wrecking everything, which I don't think makes for very fun weekly reading. Until the world gets back to normal, since the drawings have gotten such a fabulous response, I'd like to replace the newsletter with weekly drawings.

Since everyone's cooped up inside and mise...

Good House of the Yearbook: 1973

Link to Listing.

Since our Bad House of 1973 was a mansard, I thought I'd do it justice by posting a Good House that was also Mansard-esque (technically the roof is a mansard, but the house doesn't have the 70s mansard aesthetic). Personally, at $200,000 and 3 bedroom/1.5 bathrooms, I think this little house is deeply cute. I lov...

Good House of the Month: 1971 (Morris County, NJ)

Link to Listing

Call me a normie, but I have an immense soft spot for a good split level. Though they've gone out of style, as a form of housing they make immense sense in terms of how they allocate space through the story-based demarcation of public-facing (upper floor) and private (lower floor). This adorable example was recently renovated, and though the change...
