I'm struggling

Hey guys, I just wanted to say sorry for not being able to put out a new chapter of SSIAW yet, I'm afraid that I hit a wall. I'm currently trying to break through it by writing other things, but whenever I get back to SSIAW I'm progressing at a snails pace.

It's definitely going better now after the short break I had, but it is STILL a slog for me right now. I hope I didn't burn myself out when finishing the first book. Do you guys have any suggestions? I wanna at least get you guys one...

Trapped in the Crossroads: The Island: Prologue

Prologue: Freedom

Sam smiled to himself as he drifted along the blue waters, happy to finally be out in the world again at long last. It had been two years since his imprisonment and during his tenure he had done nothing else but plan his escape. This would be his third (and hopefully last) attempt at freedom. Everything was going better than Sam had expected, the inflatable raft he’d stolen hadn’t been punctured in any way, no one had noticed all the food and medical s...

Gonna be doing things a little differently

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I will no longer only be uploading the new chapters of SSIAW to the Patreon, but all of the new chapters for different stories that I'm going to be writing.  Now, I know that currently, all of you are only here for SSIAW, but I do hope that you'll enjoy the other fictions I'll be uploading here as well.

Why am I writing other stories?

I don't wanna get burnt out on SSIAW, if I only write that I'll get sick of it quickly. I don'...

SSIAW: The Fiendwood: Chapter Four: Rest Stop

Hoplite’s fist collided with the face of the last standing Fiend, its purplish flesh caving inward before falling to the stones with a wet plop. He shook the shards of bone free from his gauntlet and did one more sweep of the surrounding area, seeing that all the still-twitching Fiends were now fully incapable of movement. Did they still feel agony despite most of their brains having been destroyed? Perhaps the bodies did, but not the consciousness. Was it a mercy to destroy their brains or...

SSIAW: The Fiendwood: Chapter Three: Apologies

Hoplite eased the wagon to a complete halt, stopping just before the entrance of one of the many designated rest areas along the bridge. He could see a small horde of Fiends slowly approaching from the horizon, perhaps around a hundred in total, give or take. Hoplite didn’t think that they were aware of the wagon’s presence just yet, but they soon would be. Another significantly larger horde was approaching from the opposite side of the bridge, a conglomerate of smaller groups that Hoplit...

Physical copies of book one of SSIAW are available!

That's right, we got hardcovers and paperbacks ready to be bought, if you want them. You can even buy an e-book version if you want, though with the story already being free online I wouldn't suggest it.

Here is a link to the amazon store page if you're interested: 2023-04-07 20:13:54 +0000 UTC View Post

SSIAW: The Fiendwood: Chapter Two: Across the Fiendbridge

Kid’ka held on for dear life to the rim of the wagon, his guts churning as the world passed by in a blur. He genuinely was beginning to fear that the canvas roof would tear off from the rapid pace Hoplite maintained. It was like the thick cloth was being buffeted by gales from a storm… Hoplite truly was faster than a horse.

The Outworlder had claimed that he’d be able to cross the bridge in seven days, a feat that Elum had disbelieved. Kid’ka himself hadn’t believed it either,...

SSIAW: The Fiendwood: Chapter One: The Unbound

Mazeek scratched at his long unkempt beard, wondering how long it would take for his guest to arrive. It was getting late in the day, and Mazeek was craving his nap. He supposed that he could simply fall asleep here on the Greatbridge while he waited. It was not like he would be in any danger, the Fiends crossing the bridge made sure to keep a safe distance from him. Interesting behavior, they must have instinctively understood just what Mazeek was.

Oddly intelligent considering the mad...

Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Last Chapter

Tuji struggled with himself, trying his absolute hardest to wrest back control of his body as it drew closer and closer to the Ilum Tree that loomed over him. Every step he took was completely out of his power, as was every breath or twitch of the fingers… It seemed that his body was lost to him. Tuji had never felt this way in his life… this utter lack of control, this helplessness, it was a repulsive feeling. No matter how hard he fought… his body refused to obey his commands.

SSIAW: Chapter Thirty-Six: Through the Mouth

Hoplite stared intently at the Fiendwallers as they worked, his patience straining as the men slowly assembled the wagon. It was difficult for him to just sit by and watch as the builders slowly toiled to put the vehicle together, a part of him wanted to bark orders to work faster, or to simply move in and start putting the pieces together himself. However, he held back, for Hoplite knew that the wagon would need to be assembled correctly. If that took extra time, it would be worth it. After ...

Chapter 36 is almost done but I realized something

Like I said, chapter 36 is pretty much done, just gotta proofread it. But besides that, I think that I'm actually going to finish the first book with chapter 37! When that happens, you guys will be the first ones to see any of the chapters of book two. I can't wait to send the manuscript to the publisher, its gonna be sick.

Now, I was wondering, what should I name the first book?

Yes yes, I know, the title is Super-Soldier in Another World, but I've always thought that was lame. I...

SSIAW: Chapter Thirty-Five: Past the Fiendwall

Lance took a deep breath to steady her nerves as she stared into the all-devouring purple maw of the Fiendwood. The rotted landscape smelled a constant sickly sweet, the aroma so pungent that it made her nearly gag. The countless spirals that were etched into seemingly every surface made her stomach roil as well. The Spiral was everywhere, on the rocks, the blackened trees, the soil, and even the very clouds in the sky. It seemed that everything past the Fiendwall formed this vile ever-swirli...

Hoplite Info Sheet

Alright, here's the first of a few stat sheets for you guys to read to help sate appetites for content. There are some things that I won't list here in the sheet because I want to show that attribute in the story rather than here, but this will contain information that will at the least be somewhat interesting to you. I'll come back and add to these whenever I can, so keep in mind that any of these sheets are going to be technically incomplete .

For Hoplite, I think I'll present his she...

Still editing

Sorry this shit's taking so long everyone, I have to keep in mind every possible aspect of the story as I change content and add it as well. I've added around 20,000 words worth of content already, but that still isn't taking up nearly as much time as simply changing the content. I thought it'd be the opposite, but changing content means I also have to change future content to keep things consistent, so it takes time.

I was wondering, is there anything I can do or write to help st...

How Hoplite Saved Christmas

“There is no such thing as Santa, Lance.” Hoplite explained patiently, splashing his helmet with hot cocoa in an attempt to drink it “There has been no evidence of his existence.”

It was toasty in this cabin, a roaring fireplace serving to fight the bitter cold surrounding it. Even now the enemy snowflakes melted upon the warmed glass in an attempt to ...

For those of you who aren't aware, I've been approached by a publisher. I don't want to name names yet until a deal is reached, but I can only publish a finished product with them. We're getting close to the final stretch of this first book, but I want to go back and change some things around that I (And a lot of you guys as it turns ou...

Super Soldier In Another World: Chapter 34: Holding On

“The creature is returned. You must kill him now.” The voice echoed like an avalanche through Elum’s mind, and he winced as the deep ringing tone continued to speak “It’s blood is tainted with impurity, it cannot be allowed to exist once I reclaim my body. And I will reclaim it one day Elum, with or without your help, though you would be foolish to continue denying my deal”

Elum took a deep breath, and concentrated on his surroundings. The voice grew quiet ...

Super-Soldier in Another World: Chapter 33: Hero's Return

Twindil sighed as she settled into her bedroll, her eyes finding the ceiling of her tent. Light was now beginning to bleed through the cloth, the coolness of the morning held back by the thick gray canvas surrounding her. Her armor lay strewn haphazardly beside her bedroll, the heavy plate armor too uncomfortable to sleep in.

Not that it would have mattered, Twindil hadn’t slept last night. In fact, she hadn’t slept for well over a week now, the dark circles under her eyes attested ...

Super-Soldier in Another World: Chapter 32: Dragon's Blood

Lance giggled as Hoplite downed another pitcher of wine, the man’s head swaying to and fro as he set the container back down with a gasp. The man had practically drowned himself with how long he had been chugging… Thankfully, Hoplite apparently had gigantic lungs. The root-table before them was strewn with all manner of emptied plates, with some piles of them stacked as high as Lance was tall. An impromptu eating contest had taken place between Hoplite and ten elf men, with Hoplite coming...

Super Soldier in Another World: Chapter 31: Blur

“And that’s all we can recount about the fifth age, the sixth age, also known as Setux, has a more intact history than that of any other age.” The wizened old elf told Hoplite as his helmeted head hung low over the root table.

They had stacked several plates on the table before Hoplite, each full of different cuts of meat, every berry he could think of, and all kinds of wine… he had never tasted wine before in his life. He knew it was… was it alcoholic? Hoplite had never been ...

Super-Soldier in Another World: Chapter Thirty: Ease

Hoplite struggled with himself, his near-constant sense of caution and suspicion having completely faded away to be replaced with an overwhelming sense of pure ease. His shoulders were slackened, at least they felt slack to him. To any onlookers, Hoplite's stance likely didn’t appear all too different from how he normally held himself. Yet even if he had looked unprofessional… Hoplite found that he could hardly bring himself to care, it wasn’t really a big deal… right?

He shook ...

Super Soldier in Another World: Chapter 29: Death-Day Begins

Finding the location of Muro’s death-day celebration had proven to be a tedious effort, with Lance leading Hoplite and Michael through the crowds of elves and bunches of massive roots for what felt like an eternity. Moving through the crowds had proven to be a tiresome affair, with their pace slowed by the sheer amount of people present in the Ilum-shadowed valley. Hoplite had been beginning to wonder if Lance had really known just where she was going. She had acted quite confident in knowi...

Super Soldier in Another World: Chapter 28: Stroll Through The Bastion

As Hoplite, Lance, and Michael all passed through the winding forest of the Bastion, Hoplite came to the realization that this forest was more like a city than he had previously observed. Many of the trees they passed were occupied by elves, the trees having been fitted with doors and windows. When these doors and windows were left ajar, Hoplite could see that the interiors of these trees had been hollowed out for living space. Many of the elves who lived in these trees were out and about, se...

Super Soldier in Another World: Chapter 27: Lance's Way

Hoplite stared at Lance as he approached from the treeline, his brow furrowing at her state of dress. That would not be optimal for any sort of combat situation. What if fiends somehow breached the Bastion and attacked this strange funeral celebration? Lance couldn’t honestly be expecting to combat any potential threats in… that. Michael gave a low whistle at seeing her, cocking a brow and turning to whisper at Hoplite.

“She’s actually pretty cute isn’t she sir?” Michael ask...

Super Soldier Chapter 26: Death-Day Preparations

As Terlin finished sending the body of the Pillar-Born away… His fiery eyes turned up to glance at the monumental human that had slain the monster. Hoplite, a mortal, had slain a demigod. According to what histories remained from the previous ages… that had never been done before. True, Terlin could only go off of the scraps of the past nine ages… but those scraps covered millennia of history; and some of it was history that only Terlin was privy to.

Tuji looked the massive armored man up and down with approval. A good half a head taller than himself and looming like a golem, Hoplite certainly looked the part of a mighty warrior. Hoplite sped onward, Michael hooting excitedly as his armored boots left deep imprints upon the forest floor. Lance gave a little yelp of fright every now and then, clinging hard to the arm he was using to hold her aloft. They had been running for close to six hours now it felt like, and Michael’s enthusiasm hadn’t seemed to drop one bit as he occasionally let out a long ‘Woooo!’ or ‘Hell yeah!’ whenever Hoplite had to jump over an obstacle or quickly swerve around a tree.

Super Soldier in Another World: Chapter 22: Tuji's Advance

Tuji smiled down at the Raven before giving the elf a gentle shove, sending the little bird on his way. Ferow the Raven had turned out to be a pitiful creature, unwilling to do battle even after Tuji offered him time to recover from his serious injuries. Injuries that Hoplite had inflicted upon him with relative ease, if Tuji had heard the humiliation in Ferow’s tone correctly. Ferow had been a legend that Tuji had wanted to face since he was a child, but now… Tuji crossed his arms as he ...
