As promised! Would anyone be interested in a longer form video for parts of the rendering process? I was thinking a selection of realtime recordings coupled with some commentary directly from me. If anyone has any questions or subjects they'd want addressed in a video like that i'd be happy to take suggestions in the comments below!

Progress! The base colours for the rendering process have been laid down now, which is also a chance for me to preview and figure out stuff like the background, overall colour balance of the piece and the lighting ahead of finalizing everything. I still consider this stage to be very preliminary and a preface to the greater part of the work but it looks pretty nice already! Timelapse later this evening.

Hey there! Sorry this took longer than expected - the original footage is 4 hours before compression and I guess it needed overnight to export. Also sorry about the weird music clipping - i've had that issue a couple of times now and i'm gonna see if I can address it, but the video works just fine!
Music is from Tendencies of N by Samantha Carter and On Line Malaysia by Susumu Hirasawa, in that order.

A longtime favourite and a card i've wanted to do my own version of for years - I liked the idea of pushing the ceramic ornamentation in an organic direction and transforming it into some unwholesome veins. Hopefully this piece will be available as a custom card from Zaba before long - no guarantees but i'd love for it to be on the site ahead of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales later this month. What better mascot for killer deals than the Pot of Greed?
A timelapse of the whole proce...

As promised - the recorded timelapse of the Mass Production Evangelion piece sketch stage! I'll be recording the subsequent stages as well so eventually you'll be able to see the entire process for the painting from start to finish!

Thanks as always for your support! The piece is on track to be finished well before the next poll begins voting on the 15th ...

Yesterday while the net was still out I decided to get stuck into the October poll piece - the Mass Production Evangelion units! I talked a little already in an earlier post about the design process here but it came down to wanting to showcase them both at rest and in flight, definitely emphasizing both the organic aspects and the wings. I had the production book modelsheet open the whole time for reference which was extremely helpful, but I purposefully diverged on some points and other elem...

Hey everyone! Sorry for the slight dip in posts - i've just finished a series of pieces for a client that are all under NDA so I can't share them even here, and immediately afterwards our net died. I've been recuperating from the work sprint a little and also did a study while nervously looking at election map updates from my phone 4G. I figured the least I could do was record it for yall! I'll probably spend today working on the MP Evas - i'll make sure to record the process so you can see e...

Here's a peek at some work done for a client I won't be able to share in public for a couple of days! Chugging through the latest batch of commissions. Working on this brought me back to some of my favourite subject matter and also marked a return of the all-seeing eye, a favourite recurring symbol of mine. I was especially pleased with the teeth on the wreath of open mouths!
As ever, thank you for your support - if you have any suggestions for content you would like to see ...

I was contacted late last year by Imugi looking initially for a tour poster which later developed into the album cover for their next release. At the time they specified that they wanted a piece of two of their namesake- Imugi - in Korean tradition, the immature form of a dragon which matures under a frozen sea for a thousand years until it emerges fully grown.
I offered them a sketch sheet with a selection of possible designs accompanied by a thumbnail sketch with a proposed comp...

Hey everyone! A little surprise i'm glad i'm able to share with you first -
Some album art I did late last year for the band Imugi has been revealed, freeing me to post it! Interestingly enough this began as tour poster art before the band liked it enough to promote it to album art for their new EP "Dragonfruit" - as a result, the form factor on my originals is way different and some elements on the finished version are cropped out, but i;m happy to be able to share the full version her...

Hey! I'm starting work on the winner of this month's poll, the Mass Production Evangelion from NGE. I've always been a fan of these guys and their uniquely unsettling faces/winged silhouette ever since I first saw them in clips from End of Eva well before I actually sat through the whole thing. As dire as their role in that film is i've remained a fan of them and have even tried painting/drawing them a times before.
I have kind of a complicated relationship with my NGE fanart sinc...

I watched Takeshi Kitano's "Sonatine" last night and it had a profound impact on me - I couldn't stop thinking about taking a frame or two from it and painting them. The particular cold monochrome haze of Kitano's 90s cinema work has always resonated with me.

Still on a weird low-key Berserk kick - Decided to cool down this evening with a Nosferatu Zodd bust because the client work (Which I can't share unfortunately) i'm doing is a lot of hard surface stuff and I miss rendering FLESH. I'll have a timelapse for this one up shortly!

Hey everyone! Popping in to share a process vid I put together for the last half of work on the Eco Knight piece. Heads up though - I started this piece before the Patreon opened and I started recording some of my work so for one, most of the establishing work is already done on this one when the video starts, and additionally I was very stupid and recorded it in like 5 individual hour to two hour chunks which made for a hell of a job to stitch together and then speed to a watchable level. As...

Hey everyone! Figuring out how best to record and upload footage of my process for yall. This is my first stab at it with a simple photo study done in about an hour real time for the purposes of testing the system. I often do studies like this as a way to warm up or to keep my hand in on days where I take a break from more intense work. This study is quite rough but sometimes I keep a piece around and continue to render into it if there's a particular detail on the source i'm captured by. Hop...

Hey there! Welcome to the new patrons - I hope you bear with me while I figure out my rhythm for regular updates, especially since we're in the process of moving rn (I picked a great time, huh?). I'm also looking into getting something recorded as far as a speedpaint, tutorial, even just general painting footage kind of thing goes. In addition, if you haven't voted yet on the fanart poll you have just under a week left!
Eco Knight continues - rendering is allowing me to make some decisi...

Going forwards i'll be offering Patrons the chance to decide what my next big fanart piece will be - i've offered similar polls on Twitter as a test for this system and I really enjoy having work "Assigned" to me like this, and everyone gets to see what they want to, so everybody wins! As a rule, "Losers" of the poll will roll over to the next month barring exceptional circumstances so hopefully eventually everything will get a chance!
Polls will go up on the 1st of each month (this one...

Last year I wrapped up work on the Ars Goetia artbook - It was a long labour of love that took me from the final year of my illustration degree to eventually shipping some time after my first studio job. While I loved every minute of the process and I don't doubt i'll revisit the Goetia again someday I was left thoroughly exhausted, and certainly not in any condition to begin considering my next artbook, as much as I knew I wanted t...

Hi! Opening with a Work in Progress post here, a full shot of the next "Eco" piece. I'm going to talk more in a different post about what "Eco" means and where I intend to go with the series, but for now, please enjoy.
The Knight (who has yet to receive a name or full set of titles while I work on the piece) is partly inspired by the work of Wayne Barlowe - I was looking at my copy of the Brushfire portfolio and my love of mock "court portraits" fantasy work was revived, leading t...
