Worldbuilding Wednesday #6: Dragon Slayers of Egon

As long as there have been dragons, there have been people who really hate dragons. They're remorseless, spiteful creatures that offer nothing to their environment and destroy everything they touch, it's to be expected.

But no one hates dragons more than the Order of Egon, who dedicate their lives to snuffing out the beasts wherever they are. They were named for Father Egon, the sole survivor of a dragon attack who vowed to wipe them from the face of Flora and formally founded the order to do ...

Worldbuilding Wednesday #5: Winter and Snow Thanks

The Floran calendar is comprised of six months, each roughly 63 days long:

Jebuary, Marple, Jay, Julgust, Sectober, and Wintember.

It has the same set of four seasons that we do, but one of them is given an obvious importance over the others, Winter. The season itself runs from the Middle of Wintember to the end of Jebuary, but on Flora, the term "Winter" specifically refers to a three-week event that occurs near the start of the season. On Wintember 32nd, the sky makes an unsettling cra...

Worldbuilding Wednesday #4: Species and Magic

Magical aptitude is based on a number of variables, such as the strength of the sun's radiation present when exposed at birth, but the most immediately obvious factor is species. Since magical output is directly tied to a person's biology, such as their metabolism and heart rate, certain differences in species can create more ideal conditions than others.

The biggest one is the difference between Endothermic and Ectothermic (warm and cold-blooded, respectively) species.

Warm-bloode...

Worldbuilding Wednesday #3 - History of the Fenneclands

Aries

Before it was the Fenneclands, the homeland of the sheep and goats was known as Aries. A land of proud mountaineers and plainsmen, they guarded their borders fiercely with a tight ring of warrior tribes, each led by a mighty Ram. The interior of the country was the king's domain, but the ring was for the Rams.

Highly xenophobic and tradition-bound, the Ovine kingdom refused entry and was very picky with who they traded their precious wool with. This made them very ...

Worldbuilding Wednesday #2: Witches and the Three Braches of Magic

The Mothers of Magic

Since the beginning, all creatures that descended from the Trees of Life had the ability to manipulate magic, but for a long time, they only knew how to do so unconsciously. It was a silent force, shaping the world around them in subtle ways, and those who were blessed with overt power by their Lucky Stars were considered blessed by the lost gods. In time, centuries of science and research shed light on the true nature of magic, but even then, there were o...

Worldbuilding Wednesday #1: Magic and Anti-Magic

On this first volume of Worldbuilding Wednesday, I'll be discussing the nature of Magic in detail. Some of this information will reappear in the plot itself, but following WW updates or other supplementary info is not crucial to understanding Poppy as a whole. I will also not be giving any information that will obviously spoil future plot points.

On Flora, "magic" is a form of radiation that causes distortions in reality. Beneath the perceivable plane of existence is the magical plane, ...

Some reminders, changes to reward tiers

Poppy will begin updating again every Monday+Friday starting on the 7th, but some stuff has changed on the Patreon side of things.

The commission reward tiers have been removed for the foreseeable future, due to the high amount of workload they produced for me. I'm currently still finishing the due backlog up in between pages for the buffer, and intend to have the very last of those sent out by the end of this month, so if you sent me a prompt before the discontinuation, don't worry, your art ...

Regarding next month (Refund Details)

My computer has completely died on me, via HDD failure. I have lost Poppy pages, I have lost WIP patron rewards. I have lost over 60% of ALL of my archived work. I will not be able to order and set up my replacement PC until I move into a new apartment next month, and I can't work on rebuilding things until then, which has been very frustrating for me.

I cannot afford to let my to-do list get any bigger right now, so I am pre-emptively refunding all August reward tier pledges. I will also be d...
