This was a cool idea I liked - I can't remember why I threw it out. It probably had something to do with those two mages running around.
But anyway, it's a visual I want to see if I can reuse later with another monster fight: a monstrous Brody tongue whipping out of a cloud of smoke and pulling someone into it. Good times.

I did it. Scene is ready to get split up into individual pages and production on each can begin.
Layer 5 is the most recent page that went up, so after counting all these double spreads, it looks like it's 20 pages of action packed fun.

I think what has made this climactic battle so difficult compared to other throwaway fights is that is it just that: the climactic battle.
Every element of your story (or story thus far) must be addressed and its importance explained in one scene. It is also its own narrative: the fight must also be a story, which is its own challenge. Apparently this week is make your OCs smooch week (?) and there was an immediate cry for Mr. & Mrs. Orrig over on Twitter. But what do you do when you don't know what Mrs. Orrig looks like? You figure it out!
Preliminary sketches for the design of Mrs. Orrig! I worked left to right, bottom to top. The one on the top right is the design I like the most, and the bottom right is what she'll look like in profile!

I have no idea who would actually be interested in this, but I figure it might be neat for some people. This is the color palette and lighting schemes from about chapter 3 to the present page. If you can make sense of my nonsense, you can see the progression of the light from normal daylight to the darker sunsettiness we're getting into. You also have my notes and color order for the various details like scars, magic, acid, etc.
The coloring of DotL has pretty much been broke...
