New video! I hope you enjoy this one, it's been a long time since the last video I made in this scripted style with a voice over. It won't be live to the public until Friday so there's plenty of time for you to make comments early if you'd like to.

Hey everyone! It has been way too long. I've been recovering from some burnout from overworking myself this last summer and had some significant life changes that slowed the production of this video further. It's very good to be back. I have a number of new videos already in the works so you should be seeing new content frequently again from here on out. I hope you enjoy this project, and please let me know as always if you give it a try for yourself! This video is currently unlisted but will be...

No much heads up on this one (sorry!). Just finished it this afternoon and will post tomorrow. This isn't a project video so no contributions will be taken, this is a free post for Patrons. Hope you like it!

Early release for Patrons! Probably I will make this video public on Tuesday, but I haven't decided if I want to delay publishing a little longer so I can get ahead in making more videos for a regular upload schedule. Either way you have plenty of time to make comments before anyone else if you would like to.
In this video I convert a $35 action camera to use inexpensive (and awesome) c-mount lenses. Let me know what you think!
Also, I've reached my $300 support goal (thank you!) so an a...

I recently purchased a new truck (well, 15 yrs old but new to me) that is only 2 wheel drive. I do a lot of camping in places that are easy to get a vehicle stuck in so I've been thinking about this winch project for a while. I'll feel a lot better having this hand crank winch on hand.

I hope you all have noticed and enjoyed that I have been able to post a new video every week this past month. I've been working hard as I can to get a new video out every Tuesday and so far that has been going quite well. Since this schedule is a lot more frequent than how often I have posted videos in the past I just want to make sure that all of you know you can set a limit to the maximum number of videos you give a contribution towards per month on my channel. In the top right corner of the p...

I had to reupload my Soup Can Stove video I made a post about earlier this week due to YouTube issues with incorrect thumbnails displaying across platforms. Those of you who made comments on it earlier in the week I'm very sorry that they have been deleted along with the video...
Here is a link to the new copy and there's still a little bit of time before it will be made public around 12pm EST if you want to make more comments early: 2017-08-29 05:34:22 +0000 UTC

Early access for Patrons! This video will be made public on Tuesday.
In my previous video I showed how I make my charcoal for use in fireworks. A byproduct of my charcoal making process is wood gas, a mixture of many flammable gasses that can be used as fuel. Wood gas is simple to make, but requires some careful thought to collect and process to remove tar and other contaminants. My collection method could use some work, but I did end up with a reasonable quantity of purified gas by the end.

Early release for Patrons! (Video will be made public on Tuesday)
Senko Hanabi sparklers are a type of firework I have put significant effort into perfecting since 2007. I used to build large and complex fireworks regularly, but these little sparklers proved more challenging than even large multibreak shells. The effect produced by a tiny drop of dross that forms on the end of the sparkler is very delicate and even a tiny change in the composition or method of construction causes the result to...

I've had this idea for a few years that the Golden Rain experiment (a double displacement reaction between potassium iodide and lead nitrate) might be one of the early inspirations for alchemy and the idea that lead might be transformed into gold. In this video I attempt to make all of the compounds required for this reaction from ingredients that would have been accessible in ancient history.
One of the key ingredients, lead nitrate, would not have been available at the time according to my r...

I recently had the idea for this new vacuum cannon design that many of you might be interested in. Since it hasn't been very long since my last vacuum cannon video I thought I would make this a more casual demonstration so I could ramble about all the various features and concepts without worrying about fitting everything into a script. If you would like to see my previous video of my 4" bore cannon you can check it out here: https...

Patrons will not be charged for this video as it is just a quick tip rather than a full project. This video shows how you can make custom brass fittings when your intended use is a little out of the ordinary, like building a vacuum cannon or repairing your 30 year old truck.

In this video I show how to make a large vacuum cannon with a 4 inch bore. Vacuum cannons are a classic science experiment used to demonstrate atmospheric pressure, though very rarely are they made as large as this. My ammunition is 3 inch PVC end caps, and atmospheric pressure is the only force responsible for firing them. See my earlier video for how to build a manual vacuum pump: https://youtu.be/UkPLu6mgdWA

Breaking into a new editing format with this video I show how I made a mini Jacob's Ladder from an Arc Lighter, and conduct some experiments to answer a viewer question about if a coil of wire could turn my bismuth levitator into a frictionless motor.

Early preview for Patrons! Thank you all for helping me to upgrade my camera to a new GH4! I used a random number generator to select a current Patron to win my camera I've filmed with since 2012! Congrats Joey H.!

Early release for Patrons! Thanks everyone for your support. In large part to all of you I've been able to purchase an upgrade to the camera I've been filming with since 2012 and it should be arriving next week. This will be a big upgrade in the quality I am able to bring to project videos and will make the editing process go smoother as I have better footage that is easier to color correct.
Thank you!
