Do we still have a problem?

There are a lot of reasons why a shoot might not get a good response in comparison to others. It could be the timing of the release, the style of the shoot or many other reasons. Sadly I have a feeling that there is some discrimination at play.

Sometimes there is no reason for the concept of a photo shoot other than I think it will look cool. A delivery came protected in some silver foil bubble wrap and I thought it would make a fun backdrop.

Orange - Download

After months of trying to coordinate a shoot, hampered by Covid, family tragedy and other circumstances, Drvik (pronounced Wick) braved the studio for his first ever shoot.

How many is too many?

When I see beautiful photos of groups of men I wonder "how?" quite a lot. Sure with photographers like Bruce Weber and Francois Rousseau they are paid shoots for famous photographers so it is easier. People are more reliable when they are being paid. Unfortunately that's not my situation so I have to work within model's schedules and my own. Coordinating a group of models is hard work.

For a very long time I resisted photographing guys with tattoos. In my head I was trying to create timeless photos and tattoos put a timestamp on the photo because there are always new trends going around. While I still believe that, there will always be a dozen other things that will put a timestamp on the shoot as well. As you all know, I have been asked a million times why I don't shoot "regular" guys or "real" guys. While I kind of find it annoying that I have to justify my style and my work to people, I also understand. So last week when I posted that I felt like doing a shoot in the National Park this weekend on my Instagram stories, David who I have known through friends for a few years put his hand up. He did say "I know I'm not like your regular models."

DNA Magazine launched here in Australia in the year 2000, the year after I came out. Discovering my taste in men at the time looks like it was heavily influenced by the work of Australian-born, L.A. based photographer Lewis Payton. 

Looking at his website it appears to not have been updated in a while but I vividly remember these images of his men, the cover boys of DNA Mag at the time with their defined bodies, beautiful muscles, golden tans and all round sexiness.

The countdown begins

Today I took the plunge and booked flights for a Scandinavian adventure next year. It will be four years since my last international adventure and my recent trip to the centre of Australia has really highlighted how much I miss and love travel.

Tonight the fire alarms went off in our apartment complex for no reason, but thoughts of the fire brigade and flames made me think about an idea for a shoot that I've always thought would be interesting.

Sneak peek at Frederico
