Meteor Shower Animatic

Another probably forever unfinished thing, I do love the concept so much though. He's so in love it makes me wanna barf blarghh!!! Leo's character was thought up off Cavetown songs, I actually came up with Hazel's name before I knew he had a song called that though so that was a nice coincidence. Looking through these old animatics it actually makes me so sad that I can't show any finals, the animation worm is wriggling its way back in... Also Hazel's favorite color isn't blue but it's okay i...

Welcome & Goodbye Animatic

I really loved the concept of this one, a few minor spoilers here! I really wish I had the ability to complete more animations like this, there are so many I did whole sketches for that I never could just start. Now I don't really have time to finish them, especially since the comic itself takes priority. But this one still makes me soft, I love drawing my characters just being buds! It's pretty unlikely, but maybe one day I can revisit stuff like this. I can dream...

Kiki Animatic/Sketch

I really like figuring out the more complex movements of an animating while drawing the final frames, both because it saves time and because I don't know any other way to work lol. I guess I just don't see a point in trying to make an animatic less stiff than its first rendition and instead opt to do that in the final, unless it's in a professional setting of course. Not that I don't appreciate drafts or further exploration, but for me personally it just doesn't really work out--I end up get...

Kiki Style Study Animation HQ

This one was a really great challenge for me! It was hard as heck though, it's difficult enough to not let too much of your own style bleed into an illustration, but then it starts moving? I feel like I stared at it for too long and now I genuinely can't tell what it looks like anymore, but at least I'm happy with the animation itself! I wanted to copy the way Ghibli does hair where it poofs up in response to emotion, and by extension the bow. Consistency is so important in that regard becaus...

Fennec Walk Cycle Sketch/Skeleton

Wanted to take a crack at the classic method of creating a walk cycle , using the circles to keep the joints consistent and all that. Definitely had to do some adjusting for the final though, the base walk here felt a little stiff and I had to keep that in mind going forward so it didn't translate into the final. As I mentioned in the HQ video, animating legs is so hard for me lol. I just keep losing track of which is which, but I'm glad I at least proved that I'm able to do it--even if it d...

Fennec Walk Cycle Animation HQ

I hope no one minds me posting work unrelated to WH! I was pretty proud of how this turned out, it was good for me to do some walk cycle practice and figure out how my little mascot guy moves. The hardest part for me is always the legs, my brain really has trouble keeping track of which leg is which and it took some fiddling for it to look consistent throughout. My favorite thing about animating is that I don't have to worry about how the in-betweens look as much, as long as nothing looks out...

Monster Illustration Process

Sometimes my illustration process gets a little weird lol. A lot of them begin as one-off sketches that spark some inspiration within me, and this is a good showcase of how I really do not draw like a normal person 😭 compared to others' processes I've seen online, anyway. Not sure why this is, but if my sketch isn't thumbnail-tier I find that my final piece suffers and it never looks right. Trying too hard on the 'sketch' and then moving to lineart always fails me, I usually end up just ta...

Wolf Scratch Animation HQ

This was good practice to get used to how I wanted the wolf to look again after having not drawn it for a bit. This one was mainly mindless fun and experimenting with the white void space, I'm really excited about how all that's gonna play out for sure. Talking about the wolf is pretty hard cuz it's all just so spoilery, but I do want to clarify that this design is not what Leo physically turns into, this version of it is strictly within his mind.

Also a quick note for any in the Vampi...

Two-Faced-Twin Animatic

As I've mentioned previously, my baseline sketches are pretty bare-bones and mainly serve to just get something solid on the canvas. Therefore some animatics will definitely look better than others, I'll admit 😭 in short I sort of didn't expect to ever show these to anyone. That's the beauty of this platform, I guess! This is pretty much standard sketch stuff for me, not a lot of complex movement compared to other works--I saved the actual animated part for the final and just did it raw th...

Two-Faced Twin Animation HQ

Made this a few months before I started work on the comic, just as something easy since I didn't force myself to color anything in. Gregory & The Hawk is one of my favorite bands ever, so I knew I had to make something with at least one of their songs. Even though I didn't spend much time on this I'm pretty happy with it regardless, it was also a stepping stone in helping me figure out how to shade with black for my backgrounds. I'll get more into that whole process at a later date, but I...

Uzumaki Animatic

Fun fact, I had to make the entirety of the Uzumaki animation in four days! It was for an animation class, so essentially what I had to do here for time's sake was take my drawn storyboards and edit them together into an animatic (as opposed to traditionally drawing them out for the purpose of movement). I really liked the initial "spiraling" camera here but I had to cut it because good lord that deadline was brutal! A few other things had to go too, like Hazel walking past Leo and into the s...

Uzumaki Animation HQ

This one's an oldie! I was still figuring out how the events of the story would play out, so some things here don't line up anymore hah. The wolf that bit Leo used to actually have discernable features, wack! The strangest part of my journey in art was definitely hammering out my proportions, Leo used to be a little funny looking but I love him anyway. I once got this criticism about my necks in realism drawings being too thin and little, which was likely true, but I think it bled over into m...

Piggy Pie Animatic

This started out as something I did for fun after seeing a bunch of Piggy Pie edits online with various other media. Though I first discovered the song when I think I was what, like, 13? It's no secret I was Warrior Cats kid, so the Tigerstar Piggy Pie Multi-Animator Project was got me into it lol. That's the reason why I used the old school version of the song, the new one just sounds wrong to me 😂 Anyway, I ended up being able to finish this one, but I really do think animatics are what ...

Piggy Pie Animation HQ

Warning that this does have a slight spoiler if you haven't seen it before! I started this pretty close to a year ago now and finished it up in April. My art has improved since then and there's a lot I'd change now, but I am proud I actually managed to get it done! Animation is haaaard, mainly in Photoshop, coloring can be a real pain 🤪 I posted this to Instagram and a few other videos I'll share the HQ versions of soon just for the heck of it. All of my animations' BTS and sneak peaks of...

Ramen Waitress Illustration Process

Had a lot of lovey feelings lately I wanted to express through them, and ended up making an illustration inspired by a song I really like. I always start my pieces extremely vague just to capture the general shape and position of the characters and add as I go. The reason my art is so sketchy is because it typically starts out as chicken scratch and then I go back in and fill out the forms of the characters, usually treating what most would consider the proper sketch as the lineart lol. For t...

Old Character Refs

This is probably about a year old now, I desperately need to give them proper individual character sheets but I was so eager to start the comic that I've been putting it off haha. Anyway, these are the main three! Harvey, the guy on the far right, will be appearing very soon in the comic. The way I draw them now is somewhat different, mainly with proportional changes and stuff like that. For reference, Leo is 5'6", Hazel is 5'4" and Harvey is 5'9". They're my lil traffic-light-colored kiddos ...
