Indcsion has uploaded a long play of G&G using the cheat mode of the Japanese rom. Remember that you can also do this on MiST if you generate the rom file for the Japanese game as it is enabled by default on the MiST version.

Advances in Sprite Technology

Sprites are very special because they can appear anywhere on the screen. That doesn't happen with background tiles or the top layer of characters showing the score. Those tiles and characters will occur at a well defined row and column and the circuits needed to draw them is rather straight forward.

But sprites... starting at any X,Y position: that's a different story. It requires more processing and on top of that, the CPU must tell the hardware which sprites a...

1942 on its way

I started working on porting the 1942 arcade schematics to Verilog. This board is slightly older than Ghosts'n Goblins. The circuits are simpler and you can see they were less experienced when they made the electronics.
The background can only scroll in one direction, the number of sprites is more limited and the colour handling is full of PROM chips, a sign of uncertainty in the design.

I can reuse a lot of the files and experience from Ghosts'n Goblins so I hope to deliver this gam...

Alexey (MiSTer) and I have kept a close collaboration since we met in person last year. He knew I was finishing the GnG core and was ready to pick it up after the MiST release. He has done a very quick job with this port. Note that he uses a different ROM file format with a simple .bat file converter.
MiSTer has more internal FPGA memory so he doesn't need to rely on the external memory. That has the advantage that the MiSTer version doesn't have the 8-pixel dela...
