Problem Child 19: Suburban Paradise, brought to you by Lex Corp

“No, Aiko,” Dad repeated patiently. “I won’t vault the fence holding your mother in order to run away. First off, it would be a violation of her bodily autonomy. That’s not very nice, is it?” He drizzled olive oil on his beloved farmer’s market vegetables the whole time he talked. Ugh. The prison food in this place was going to kill her.

Aiko clicked her tongue. “This is unfortunate,” she muttered, ignoring the attempt at life lessons. Mom was even worse than he was, a...

Problem Child 18: the kidnapping

Mercy didn’t take her home, obviously. As soon as she was confident that Captain Marvel had been convinced, the humanity shucked right off of her. Mercy relaxed into her normal feline posture, fluid and cruel. She would, Aiko thought, have been a pretty decent shinobi in another life.

She also turned the car in a different direction, somewhere that Aiko had never been before.

Aiko slouched in her seat and sighed. At least she was in the front seat and had a good view of he...

“Priestess,” he purred. She glanced up as he prowled into his own house, smelling faintly of both smoke and soap. The combination was sort of acrid. Aiko tried not to scrunch up her face in visible distaste. He probably didn’t realize that she could smell him so strongly. “My apologies for the delay. I am of course honored that you have come to see me. Would you like tea and refreshments?” He sat closely to her and sprawled to watch her from under his lashes, jaw tilted up. “W...

Her assailant did not enjoy that assessment. They narrowed their eyes and lunged in again. They were close enough for her to note that they were slightly taller than Aiko, with a narrow build that didn’t carry a lot of visible muscle. She dodged again, this time whirling a few feet away to look at them. They didn’t pursue immediately this time, moving into a classic 10-strike stand, hands lifted.

I’m sort of relieved that the Hyuuga are finally making a move’,<...

Damian rapped on Beautia’s window with his gloved knuckles and waited impatiently for her to open her curtains. She pulled them open cautiously, blinked, and then gave him a nod as she unlocked the window. “My thanks,” he said, pushing the window open and climbing inside. “I hope that you are well. I have a question.”

“Yes, of course.” Beautia Sivana watched him cross her living room to stand with his back to a wall. “Junior is in his room right now–”<...

Can you ask Beautia ho…

Damian did not react to the incoming message, rapidly spamming flower attacks on the big screen in the family television den. His opponent screamed verbal abuse over the microphone as his avatar was buried under an avalanche of impenetrable daisies.

Father looked up from his laptop disapprovingly, but his gaze did not land on the lit message from the girl he certainly did not know Robin associated with. He merely frow...

It was a matter of minutes to walk across the town. It was not enough time for her to really gather her nerves.

Hana’s husband answered the door at her first knock, and lit up when he saw her. She avoided eye contact. “Is Hana up for visitors?”

“Yes, of course, Hana-chan would love to see you before you go.” Hiroki stepped to the side and let her into his house. She could hear a baby crying from inside as soon as the door opened. She gave him ...

“Who is that?” Marvel asked, as soon as the police sirens were behind them. He sounded mad. He touched down and let her out of his grip a bit suddenly.

Whoa. Aiko blinked up at him. It was the first time she had heard him angry. She took a couple of judicious steps away, uncertain of her footing in this situation. Her tension rose. She didn’t like him getting angry. He seemed nice so far, but he was huge and strong. Aiko flexed her fingers, wishing she already had a wea...

Tires screeched.

She was momentarily blinded, dazzled by the transition from the store to the pitch-black sky cruelly cut through with cold streetlights. It took two blinks to fix.

They reached the parking lot as two vans peeled out in opposite directions. Marvel took them lower, nearly to the ground. Aiko flipped out of Marvel’s grip and started running after one randomly. Captain Marvel smoothly zipped off and tracked the other one, no need for conver...

Fumiko was ready to talk when Aiko reached her house, simple notes on her low table. She had her hair tied up sensibly and her oversized kimono cover hanging casually off of her shoulders. The light coming in through the oil-paper window hit her in such a way that her dark hair shone faintly.

Aiko closed the sliding door behind her and pushed down the rise of nostalgia. Fumiko wasn’t her mentor, she was her acolyte. But something about her posture and confidence brought to ...

It felt like a gut punch. She grunted and went down to a knee.

The air began to seethe with bijuu chakra. It seeped out of her in a furious, hurting mist.

She cut another lock, opening the floodgates. It was excruciating. That was all she could do. Aiko went down to both hands and panted through the pain.

Sanbi seeped and billowed out into the forest. Formless and icy, he hissed as he went into material reality for the first t...

“That’s not exactly what I meant...” Sarutobi frowned.

The head priest hummed. “As these lands have recently suffered from mismanagement by Orochimaru-san, we here have learned that perhaps it is best to carefully consider the benefits and drawbacks of all chosen affiliations and protections.”

Ouch. Being compared to Orochimaru stung with bitter unfairness. She was his slayer, not his successor.

‘If they really think so poorly of me, there’s no point in me ...

WAP Aiko 40

The night with Tobirama wasn’t as bad as she feared. He was a quiet houseguest. He accepted the futon with quiet thanks and laid down his head for the night without taking off his armor, which she sort of felt flattered by. He wasn’t that comfortable with her.

Or maybe he was just making the polite moves for her battered ego, which would be gracious of him. Aiko would accept it.

Come early morning, someone called a hello from outside. Aiko folded her futo...

Problem Child 13: set in an empty department store

There was definitely someone in the building. Aiko barely breathed, trying to orient with her ears in the dark. Marvel was floating slightly to avoid the sound of footsteps. She even knew what he was doing but it registered as unnatural in a way that put the hair up at the back of her neck. The store itself smelled like hundreds of people, yet it was deserted and dark. The air conditioning units were off and the lack of ambient humming was subtly wrong.

Aiko hung outside long enough to watch Hanako, Aiko, and Momoko follow Furi-san like ducklings out of sight into the heart of the village. Furi-san was doing this to get gossip first. The whole town was going to be asking her questions about the strange ninja man who had appeared in the middle of the night.

More power to her, Aiko decided, turning back to her room. That meant that fewer people would try to ask Aiko. What a winning situation. Everyth...

They needed someone to fix this.

“The leading medical experts… Ninja, the Senju, I think?” Hana’s husband wrung his hands after he answered her. “Can’t you do anything?” He sounded betrayed. “Please– anything you wish, we are your loyal servants-”

Of course, their plan was entirely contingent on getting ahold of a reptile doctor at this late hour. It was half past 7 pm on a worknight, and Aiko could only assume that they were getting ready for bed after a long day of sleeping on sunny rocks and digesting a singular large meal.

Aiko drowned in self pity for a bit. She was useless here.

The security footage was illuminating. Aiko crossed her arms and watched as the scientist walked into the office. The door creaked shut behind him, showing that a great silly hulk of a person had been lying in wait. He crept in behind the herpetologist, arms raised. His tail barely avoided knocking into a desk. He was nominally hidden from his victim’s gaze by a coat rack.

Dad turned off the car in the top level of the parking garage where they were set to meet Captain Marvel. He had brought her to the same place yesterday and handed her off to one of her own clones.

Chapter Nine

Dad dropped the tray of juice when he saw who Aiko had let into the house. Robin darted forward to catch it on his palm. Aiko clapped politely as he spun it, let out a little hmmph, and proffered it back to her father.

“Thanks, buddy,” Dad said weakly. His eyebrows tugged down. “Sweetheart, are you super hero friends with Robin now?” He put the drinks down on the kitchen table. “Where, uh, where did you meet?” View Post

Aiko- Problem Child cuts

these scenes were cut when I reworked the plot, which was originally mostly just a gag about her churning though JL mentors on her unstoppable path to ruin Batman's life. I still like them for characterization, you get a little more Minato than in previous.

Problem Child: 8

On her third day as a solo act, Aiko indulged in something personal, since she was pretty sure that she could get everything important that remained for Marvel's protection done tomorrow after her ballet class. “I think he’ll want to see me,” she told the secretary, leaning up on her tippy toes to put her hands on the desk. “Buzz me in, please.” It was hard to make eye contact over the glossy wooden piece of furniture.

On the second day of Aiko’s self-assigned mission to protect Marvel's interests and secret identity, she followed up on the Monster Society of Evil. She’d burnt the bodies, but there was still only so much time before Dr. Sivana’s allies would notice the radio silence. Aiko had to work fast.

The tough call was whether to go after the bulk of the enemies at the weird school institution, or to go after the head of the organization by taking out Mister Mind.

“Buh bye.” Aiko hung up the receiver and felt only a little bad for ditching her patrol partner. The poor guy was obviously sad that he had to go out alone. It was like kicking a puppy. “It’s for your good, little buddy,” she muttered to herself. He’d feel better when his enemies had been crushed into paste. Then he could help with traffic and lost pets in peace and quiet.

The next few weeks actually felt like work worth doing. Aiko slipped into basic tabi and let her feet get dusty on the way between towns, dressed in the iconic red and white of a servant of the people. Something about the pretense of humility felt right. Absolutely no one was happy about them meeting at Modachi-sama’s beautiful estate to discuss, the civilian noble least of all. He gave them a vaguely haunted expression and chain smoked through the apparent psychic pain of being the iconic civilian co-conspirator to their coup. Aiko wrinkled her nose in disgust.
