(brandon:) Woooo, continuing my series of small reviews of games I had to play for competitions, here's one I never talked about on the show! I didn't want to dignify it with a conversation ha ha. Maybe if I played it more than 2 hours something would've opened up but this was sure not for me.

Questions this week:
This is a quick one. Part of my (brandon's) continuing series of reviews for competitions. I played it for like 2 hours and shrugged, is the short version, but apparently some folks had a very different feeling about this one!

This is a remake of the Diamond/Pearl DS games, which I played through (most of) back in the day. The original was actually the first pokemon I played extensively. What I'll say right off the bat is this *feels* like a remake. It feels like an older and clun...

Continuing my (brandon's) series on games I had to review for competitions, here's one that surprised me! We talked about it in the GOTY episode, and I probably wouldn't have played it if not for the judging process, so hooray! This was in the RPG category, so I spent a lot of time talking about whether it was an RPG... it's probably not, 100%!? it's hard to say, even now.

Okay, so this is a remake, and a pretty straightforward one at that. There's no way around it. But this is a game I beat on the 360 and then again on PS4, so clearly it does something for me. My focus will be on whether it's worth reconsidering in 2021.

(brandon:) Continuing my series of mini-"reviews" of games I had to play to judge for competition. I chose this one because it seemed like a ~vania.
--
What's the game about?
This is indeed a ~vania of a sort, but much lighter. It's more of a gated experience where new areas are open with new powers, but in a very node-based way. there's no big continuous castle/map like there is in metroid or similar. Ultimately it winds up being more of a platforming hack and...

With audio recoreded specifically for this bonus credit, you know it’s gotta be good!

Continuing the series of reviews I (brandon) had to do whilst judging awards shows, here's SMT V! A game I quite liked but stopped playing partially because of my bad controller, partially because... I dunno, the open world gave me more of a busywork feel than previous games did? Not sure why. I should get back to it. And remember, I'm mostly describing the game to people who might not play it at all. Anyway:

Continuing my (brandon's) series of "games I had to sort-of-review for awards shows," here's Pokemon Unite, which did wind up winning some awards even though I really don't think it's that special (oops). Again, these "reviews" are meant to tell other judges what the game is all about, so sometimes it's a bit basic.

Hello! This is brandon. I had to do a bunch of small "reviews" of games for various competitions I was judging for the games of 2021, and I thought I could share them here as a little extra something. They're not written for prose or with much intention, nor are the games very intentionally selected - these are simply the games I had to play for competitions, and the things I had to say about them in that context. I've got 9 of these. I guess I'll post one per week, or whenever I remember. Wi...
