Patrons will know that I get inspiration from captioned images (although I am increasingly looking for just images to spark me) and I usually just expand a little in a short piece. But in this case there were two captioned images in series and a more involved story that still cried out for more. So this one turned into a more substantial short story

Her seed was about birdwatchers and I had some vague recollection of a documentary mentioning birds that "cross-dressed" so I googled it and learned all about the ruff, and some other odd birds as well. I chose to make the storyteller a key character and to bring him to the page by the ay he tells this story, and for the first time in a story I have added links!

I have written at least one short piece on cross-dressing to avoid the draft but I felt that the desperation to avoid this particular meat grinder might justify it. I have seen the small villages in the news feeds and I imagine Russian villages will be much the same - pulling together in a crisis.

I post singles on Fictionmania and every now and then I get comments (usually good) and sometimes requests for a longer story based on the situation described. This is one of those. So please let me know if you think one of my "sketches" deserves being colored into a full work of art.

I have got some serious criticism by a few on Fictionmania about writing these things, but sometimes I just see in a caption an idea that I think calls for a story. People will know that some of these "sketches" or "exercises" do result in even longer stories, and I am always open to suggestion from patrons or other readers, as to what deserves more.

My first of those books was "Space and Time for Romance" published in February and got some great reviews.
