Book Five, Chapter 121

When we landed, we were standing in a large industrial complex, right in front of something that could have been a cement factory or a nuclear silo. I had no idea—all I could see were giant metal structures jutting into the sky. It had that generic quality—it could have been anything.

Immediately, Generation Killer let go of Camden and started running along the a path into the structure. View Post

I arrived to a Camp Dyer in chaos.

I could hear screaming in the woods, and I set myself on filming it. Of course, not getting caught was important too—I did technically have the lowest plot armor. If Camden was really here, that would mean we were tied. In a way, I liked that because it meant I could protect him.

I just had to find him first.

That wasn’t the hardest thing ever...

Suddenly, we didn't feel safe in the museum.

"What the heck was that?" Logan asked as we found ourselves settling into the back booth at the Diner. "And why the hell are we in this fishbowl?"

I panned the camera around so that they could see all the windows in the diner. If there was someone looking for us, they would see us here.

"Clearly, he doesn't have trouble finding us," Kim...

Book Five, Chapter 118: Night Watch

I tried to rest—I really did—but the anticipation prodded me awake.

For a moment, a fleeting thought entered my mind: after Second Blood, I could easily be dead, and I might actually be able to get a nap.

I had to dismiss that. It was sometimes scary how casual I could be about my own death.

Not quite as scary as realizing that one of the lights on the red wallpaper had changed—and suddenly, while lying on the ground in the night, I was On-Screen.

That wasn't so ...

"Man, this place is a dump," Bobby said as we walked through the neglected historical building that would one day be the museum we worked at. "But there are no vagrants here. I checked the whole place."

We could barely see as we walked around. The windows were all still shuttered in 2010.

"I don't know. Looks pretty much the same to me," Logan said. "If anything, the wi...

"It's not anything to be nervous about," Anna said, though I could tell that she was nervous even as she said it. "It's not like a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of thing. You can feel it happening. As long as you've got this necklace with you, you can feel yourself start to slip."

It was a bright and beautiful day.

People were out walking their dogs, which distracted Bobby...

There was an uproar in the office as we all reacted to the tape of Lila being murdered for the audience. We needed this to be the moment things got real.

The bad guy had yet to reveal himself to us in person. It might be difficult to justify extreme reactions by the characters until they can no longer deny the situation. The fact that Lila was killed Off-Scree...

We were getting spoiled by having a camera that we could control.

After a few minutes of prepping and getting ready, we ran back through everything we had just spoken about. This time On-Screen.

We were doing our best to give the reactions we felt the information deserved.

The meteor shards are all different—oh my goodness!

The bad guy used to work at the other museum, and he stole a pendant with part of the meteor on it. How scandalous!

"It's time to see what it's like on the other side of the museum industry," I said as we walked into the building right next to Town Hall.

This museum had an exhibit on the very meteor that struck Carousel nearly 300 years prior. We were going to try to learn everything about it that we could.

It was just Bobby, Kimberly, Logan, and me. Antoine voluntee...

Anna was sitting in a chair, crying, her hand held out in front of her like she was getting a manicure, but she wasn’t.

Bobby was inspecting her injuries.

Kimberly was by her side as Bobby took off the makeshift bandage she had fashioned.

The reveal was stomach-churning.

She was missing the pinky and ring finger of her left hand. Even with all of her Grit, she was in pain.

“Bobby, get that thing wrapped up now!” Kimberly screamed.

Maps

I am making the first official map of Carousel soon and I would like your input. I plan to make many maps of varying detail. As you know, Carousel is a lot bigger than it looks so it may take quite a few to capture its essence. I am looking forward to the project.

However, this first map is Carousel at a glance and can only show a limited number of landmarks and destinations. Please comment any significant locations that you would like to have included on the map.

Kimberly was slumped over in her chair, leaning against one of the desks in clear distress, drinking a glass of wine unashamed.

"We’re off the clock," she had said earlier.

We found an old guitar in the jailhouse.

It had the trope Weapons of Mass Absurdity attached to it.

Isaac had that same trope and had apparently used it on one of those yard rakes with an extendable handle in a storyline.

Ramona told this story: he was facing off against the enemy of The Groundskeeper storyline, and right in a climactic moment, he clicked the handle to extend the rake out all the way.

The trope empowered humorou...

We were back at Happened A-Pawn.

The previous time we had been to the pawn shop, there hadn’t been much of a selection—at least not anything we needed. But this time was different because we had played several storylines since then, and the stock was determined by the recent storylines that had been run.

I was pleased to see that the weapons selection was far better, no doubt thanks to Stray Dawn having so many firearms and other killing tools.

It wasn’t ...

Storyline Ideas

Alright, the first storyline of Book Six is a freebie. Comment with your ideas, and then I will create a Patreon poll with 3-4 finalists inspired by them. It's been a while since we've done this.

I will consider any idea, from monster types to various plots. Feel free to reference movies or other storylines. I am a blank slate. Remember to like any comment with an idea you like.

I'm going to push Thursday and Friday's chapters to come out on Saturday and Sunday. I just need to get some stuff in order for the final run-up. I can't wait to show you what is about to happen. It should be fun.

The next storyline will be the final one of Book Five and the end of Arc Two. After it is finished, I will be taking a break to do some editing and get Book Six started. When I come back, I will have a buffer so that I am not writing chapters so close to being posted. Yay...

Book Five, Chapter 104: A Rescue in Review

Kimberly kept the letter Anna had written us.

She stored it in her bag, the one she used her Luggage Tag on.

It was pressed inside a little book on home repair she had found at the bed and breakfast after we beat Permanent Vacancy.

We sat around the table and read it again, the memories flooding over us.

You have to choose your battles in Carousel.

We had chosen Stray Dawn, and we had won handily. Now, we would never have to fight that battle again.

So, “we” decided it was okay to spoil the story to the others.

We all piled into the living room on our new chairs. The girls got the couch—chivalry was undead in Carousel.

We were having a movie night, and we decided to watch Stray Dawn. Not the version we had just played—no, we wanted to watch th...

Our celebration was muted when we got back to the loft and found a note from the others: they had gone on a storyline.

They couldn’t even wait four days for us and had decided to get a jump on trying to find new rescue tropes. It was good news to me, but it meant I was going to wait to reveal my one-sided chat with the mysterious game maker who whispered to me at the theater.

I wanted everybody to be there. Truth be told, I didn’t even know if I should talk about it at all, bu...

As I clicked the light on and looked around, I realized there was no crypt anymore.

I was underground, and I could hear the earth around me shifting. I quickly crawled toward the exit.

I really wanted to include the rewards chapter here for you, but unfortunately, I just lost it. My computer shut off, and the document is gone. The autosave file does not even exist. That has never happened before. I am deflated and embarrassed, and I can't mess with it anymore.

Luckily, I do have most of the actual content in my notes; the doc I lost was the one I was assembling the final chapter on. So I still have the stuff; it just isn't together or written out completely.

Book Five, Chapters 98 and 99

Here are Thursday's and Friday's chapters. I thought today's chapter would be the rewards chapter, but it didn't turn out that way. I may rewrite these again, but the gist will be the same.

I will still get the rewards chapter to you ASAP. It's going to be a long one.

*Warning: These chapters do involve nonlethal harm to a minor, but it is not physical or explicit. If you want to skip it, there will be a brief summary in the rewards chapter.
