Not my best work, but it was a fairly low-priced commission. I'm still kinda trying to get the hang of "painterly" shading, and I'm also kinda digging my way out of a depressive rut. xmx

Still, I'm making good use of the shading trick my mentor showed me. Shadows are much more "alive" now.  Sorta. Kinda.  I dunno.

Lack of posts lately, I know. Sorry.

There's been some..... potential developments on my end, which MAY or MAY NOT require me to do an NDA thing.

So I've been working on something private. Not 100% certain it will go anywhere, but things appear... to be moving along on a private project. Can't say much more than that.

But I have commissions to do, and the rent needs to get paid, so I'll try to post some stuff soon.

FINALLY, a Mikey pic that's actually GOOD, and not just my "first attempt at a new style" 9_9;;

Anyway, this turned out decent. My mentor's techniques are working nicely. I also figured out how to make Clip's damn "radial curve" do what I want. (spoilers: hit enter instead of clicking when you get the shape you want)

..... My best work yet, I think. My mentor, Garrett Hanna pointed out a few fixes that I could do, and also showed me how to do that cool smokey effect in the background! His paintover was very helpful.

I also finally, FINALLY am beginning to understand how to truly PAINT digitally, instead of just.... coloring inside the lines.

Gotta keep going, gotta keep learning.

The last post was my following along of a tutorial, which provided pictures to paint over.

My bad. I shouldn't be posting the work of other artists on patreon, even if it is "my version" of it.

Possible short hiatus.

So here's the deal.

I want to take this month to not just draw random things, but specifically try to better my skill as an artist. To that end, I've saved up enough money to buy a "mentorship" from a certain artist (name withheld, in case he doesn't want to be associated with me) who has worked on several fictional works that I especially liked. A professional.

I've also come into a large amount of educational material on digital painting and drawing, so I'll also be studying tha...
