What do I do when I have unfinished pieces, but want to start a new one?

I just start them. 

Sometimes there's this pressure to finish something before moving on to the next thing. I think that thats good because it forces you to just work through it to get to the next piece.

But lately with figuring out all this new patreon stuff, and getting a new job and just general life changes, I've had a hard time finishing pieces.

In this video I will talk about the importance of experimenting in my artwork and how it is important to experiment and doodle while learning the fundamentals. I'm also going to be doing more lessons about experimentation in between the fundamentals lessons. I walkthrough my charcoals that I use. Then I start drawing. I also talk about the difference between doodling and drawing, a line from taxi driver, how I use fundamentals as a checklist with my art, and other topics.

Depth pt. 1 - Contrast

In this lesson we will start talking about how to create depth in a drawing. the most intuitive way to add depth to me has always been through contrast. I will explore how contrast does this and the concept of atmospheric or aerial perspective. 

I think how I'll do these lessons going forward is with a short video like this going over the concept, then a longer demo after.

How to start from a blank canvas

I might do a longer video on this subject. But I started a new piece tonight so I did a quick little video about it.

In short the best way to start from a blank canvas is to bring something to it. You make art because you find things in life interesting, you have ideas, etc. record those things. In writing, drawing, however it makes sense to keep track of it. Then when the blank canvas stares at you, you can have something to say.

Put this one on the easel tonight. It’s been a long day/week. So I wanted to paint something that had no purpose.

take a photo of an abstract texture such as a stained street, a cracked wall, close up of a rock etc. then draw what you see in it using your pareidolia.

The deadline is going to be April 8th. I'd like to post all the submissions on my instagram as well.
