Podcast 658 Recording Session

It's the first podcast of 2022! Are you excited? Well, what if I told you that everything we talk about is either:

1.) not available yet, and they didn't share pricing info

2.) will be sold out the instant it goes on sale

NOW are you excited???

This Motherboard is THICK

No, I didn't spell it "thicc". I respect the English language too much. Regardless, the MSI MEG Z690 Tomahawk motherboard has an impressively robust PCB. It feels rigid without the benefit of a backplate, and everywhere I look on the board instills confidence. Visual confidence. The kind that is totally useless when evaluating a motherboard.

Now, just wait as I attempt to track down my digital calipers and begin mobo thickness comparisons. I hope they aren't lost - like so many things a...

Podcast 657 Recording Session

How rare is it that we get together to record a podcast Christmas week? More rare - and more precious - than gold. No! More like a pearl. A natural, lustrous pearl that emerged from a contented oyster after many years of docile oceanic living.

Limited Run Monkey Island 30th Anniversary Anthology Unboxing

After waiting for a year, the Monkey Island Anthology box set from Limited Run has arrived, and I recorded the unboxing process. Enjoy low-energy commentary, erroneous statements that have to be corrected with on-screen text, and generic YouTube library Christmas jazz background music that screams "LGR wannabe".

Happy Holidays!

Getting Lucky (a big box PC game story)

I am pleased to report that in October of 2020 my wife decided to buy me the Limited Run Games Monkey Island 30th Anniversary Anthology. She thought it would arrive after Christmas 2020, and considering UPS left it on our front step yesterday, she was right.

Now they sell for $400 - $500 on eBay, but she said I get to keep it anyway. So, I will have to unbox it and I'll upload the video here on Patreon before I do anything with the footage on YouTube. I own the original big box version ...

Podcast 656 Recording Session

How does a nearly two hour stream (technically 1 hr, 51 min) only produce a 50 min podcast? YOU BE THE JUDGE. Also, Josh had mic trouble.

It turns out that every time Josh uses the software mute function with his browser VMix session, he loses the mic entirely and has to disconnect and rejoin the stream. Speaking from experience, VMix sucks to use in a browser, and I wish there was a client.

P.S. Apologies for the late post this week. -SP

Podcast #655 Recording Session

Here's the full version of this week's show (if it ever finishes processing), presented with its original running time with NO commercial interruptions! Relive the magic of that incredible stream, or watch it for the first time! It's unlisted, unrated, and sometimes unintelligible. But a valiant attempt was made to improve the audio.

Goals for next week:

1.) Wear closed-back headphones and monitor audio at appropriate volume level

2.) Actually adjust the volume of everyone u...

Podcast 655 Uncut Now Exporting

The audio was bad AGAIN this week. Josh is fighting Windows settings with Firefox and ended up with too much gain, and Jeremy decided to surprise us with a new headset mic and his levels were _very_ dependent on how close the boom was to his face.

Excuses aside, I leveled the audio as best I could and the uncut show is exporting now. I'll post the link when it has been uploaded and processed. Sound is tolerable, if a bit distorted during the loudest passages... I need to wear actual mon...

MSI Sent Stuff

Well, I don't have a GODLIKE but we were graced with the TOMAHAWK board in MSI's Z690 family. From picking up the box I can tell you that it's heavy for an ATX board - but ADL needs massive heatsinks for all that VRM so I'd call it a "reassuring heft".

The Cooler is another 360 mm AiO, the CORELIQUID K360 (they love their capital letters), but I do appreciate that it calls out Asetek right on the box. No mystery on the OEM, at least. Also, the shroud around the pump/block assembly looks...

Podcast 654 (Uncut) On the Way

I was just going to share the original YouTube livestream link, but the audio levels were so bad that I'm fixing it and re-uploading the whole thing. Once YT finishes processing it I'll post it here. I didn't realize just how bad things were during the stream. Next week we'll have a proper line test and I'll actually check levels. Sorry!

SilverStone Sent Some Stuff

Greetings from the EiC. Now that I have finally logged in to this fine platform for the first time, I will make a habit of it. I thought I could occationally post updates about what's in the pipeline (other than embargoed stuff, of course), or just provide unsolicited and possibly totally random updates about what's going on around here.

Do you hate this idea? Is it acceptable? Is my writing style annoying? Do you like sentences that end in a question mark?

Also, the photo depicts...

Podcast #653 - NVIDIA's November Update, Seagate's NVMe HDD, Intel BIOS Patches, Etc.

Do you like raw, unfiltered video content? Do you like previously recorded live streams of podcast recording sessions with four people? How about four people who aren't anywhere near each other in real life?

YOUR DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE. I can barely believe it myself, but after pasting in the unlisted YouTube video link in the text field marked "link", the auto-generated thumbnail popped up and the full, uncut stream was once again visible.

I wouldn't watch it again, having scrutin...

Glad that you're here, thanks for dropping in.

On the show tonight, tech news of the week of course.

Podcast #648 - AMD RX 6600 Review, Win 11 Ryzen Issues + MORE!

Don't worry, the out-of-this-world burger segment is back.

Could you even buy an AMD RX 6600 if you wanted?  The sad state of availability continues, but the card is still ok.  Windows 11 continues to install issues, DRAM pricing changes are coming and Samsung is gearing up for their 2nm chip process.

After a ton of chatter on all the things, we wind down with some Far Cry 6 FSR / FidelityFX talk and how Android is still taking your personal data.

Welcome back to the PCPer show, seemed to go fairly well actually!

Podcast #646 - GPU Rumors, Vulnerabilities, Epic EPYC, Solocast

The sub-title sounds a bit like relationship problems.  And uncut, as always.

It's true, there are a few newsworthy GPU rumors on the 30 series and Intel ARC GPUs.  Plus the Radeon RX 6600 is expected to be un-buyable, of course.  There's an Epic share of EPYC happening, and it does and does not matter where you shove that NVME drive.

Crypto mining is going nuclear, and did I mention the vulnerabilities?  There are some.  Bluetooth and RGB fall victim, oh ...
