Bohn Contex 10 Mechanical Calculator In Depth Look

More video!

I'm going to be away from my computer for most of the day and I just started the upload as I write this. So you'll want to give a it a few hours before trying to watching it.

This is the last of this video rush I've been on. There may be another one in the next few weeks. I'm trying to get really far ahead to give myself all the free time I need to prepare for LTX now as it gets closer.

MailCall 0x04: Mail from viewers like you!

Slight spoiler, I've already assembled the AdLib from this and recorded a video about it. But I don't know how I'm going to edit it because there are some inevitably long parts of soldering with no talking. So I may need to come up with some music for it before I can release it.

Compaq Portable Repair history & Foam and Foil Keyboard Repair

Edit: I forgot to add the text.

This video ended up being a bit more than I thought it would be. Primarily it was about repairing the keyboard on my Compaq Portable. But it turned out to have had quite a lot of work done to it so it was fun discovering all that. I'm really happy with the final results though! This computer is now fantastic to use!

10Gb Ethernet Cooling Mod and Testing

I had a bunch of delays on video projects (The DOS PC build has begun) but I was finally able to get the 10Gb network setup! Editing this video from the server worked like a dream! It's so nice to have my old workflow back and is going to make recording videos much easier now since I can offload the recording SSDs to the server for editing.

Little video on recent pick up

You may have seen this already but I picked up this Roland Atelier AT-90S the other day.

It's been eating up a bit of my time and I started rebuilding my lights and got stuck and had to order parts to be delivered tomorrow. I'm going to try to get a video recorded and edited tomorrow with one light, but we'll see how it goes. I'm probably going to be a little late this week.

LP-120 Phono Bypass Mod

This video spiraled wildly out of control for complexity. I didn't expect it to be over 30m long. It was definitely in the top 10 for the longest time to edit. I'm still tempted to go back and hack out some of the less on topic stuff in the beginning.

But I wanted to be thorough and try to fully explain what was going on. This is somewhat of a test video for a format that is aimed at being more educational. But this was far from a fully scripted video. The important parts were scripte...

Supporter Updates April 2019

I figured I should give you some updates on stuff I've been working on behind the scenes. I've got a few projects I'm working on that haven't gotten to the point where they are ready for videos yet.

Unisonic 21 ReCap

I finally got around to recapping the Unisonic 21. It went about as well as I was expecting. But Arrow Electronics rocks, and I'll definitely be using them in the future for parts!

Typewriter Correction Methods

I've gone back and finished this video now having added in the last method of correcting that I couldn't previously demonstrate.

I've split it into two parts as well since it was running a bit long:
Pt1 - Self Correcting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QERfd7D0fi0
Pt2 - Manual Correcting: https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Bonus Supporter Video: Cleaning and Fixing a Smith Corona Galaxie Deluxe

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for hanging in there while I was on an unexpected break from videos. I'm finishing up the Typewriter Correction video (I'm splitting it into two) and decided to record something I wouldn't normally record. I think I'm going to try doing this more often. It didn't take much more work on top of finishing the other video to make this one. I am putting it up here as a bonus video for everyone and if I end up missing a video I can release this one instead. I'm...

New additional filming setup!

One of my goals for getting organized and getting stuff in storage was getting a new filming space. This isn't what I was talking about in the last supporter video where I said I could clean out a whole room. I'm going a bit smaller for right now. This is just maximizing the space I have.

But I'm pretty happy with it and have some test footage for you to check out: https://t.co/ucEzuiHEIP

First I want to say there ...

Behind the scenes

I've been really busy the last week or so because I decided I'm going to get a smaller intermediate storage unit different from the one I've mentioned before. I just needed to clear up some space in the area I film which between a few larger Goodwill and Craigslist finds recently coupled with viewer mail I hit a point where I was being impeded by too much stuff.

I don't want to just quickly dump all the stuff I don't regularly use into boxes and cram it in storage because I won't reall...

Typewriter Correction - BETA

It's difficult to offend me with smells, butI've been pouring a lot of time into this video for a couple weeks now with research, scripting, and shooting. This is a finished and ready to watch video, but...

I had a funny problem during this video and figured I'd make an extra video for here out of it, it's been a while since I've done that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F94bRkPZNHs

This was also shot with a "new" mic I bought a goodwill for $5. Shockingly, it wasn't an upgrade. But what it was, was a test because this was an XLR mic. I didn't previously have a vocal XLR mic so this let me try a new workf...

The HP-12C

There are a couple of less optimal spots in the edit and the color balancing was surprisingly challenging because there was not black reference. I guess I could really use a full color card.

This video ended up a lot more tutorial like than I anticipated. I'm okay with that and am curious to see how people like it. There is a lot of depth to this calculator so there is plenty to cover.

Video Delays Update

I feel compelled to kind of give a run down of why videos have been delayed recently. I was thinking about making a update video about this but I decided I wanted to lay this out in text so I don't miss anything.

I think I've started to hit a point where I'm trying to push myself too hard to make heavily produced videos but then run out of time to meet my schedule to do that and end up making a half baked rushed video that looks like I put in no effort at all. I have all these ideas and...

Pre-Stream Test

I'm planning on doing a stream tomorrow in lieu of a standard video which is far from ready. I needed to test my new streaming setup using my new camera so I recorded a video of it. I've changed pretty much everything about how I stream to make it a bit less "streamery". I want it to look clean and only have information where and when it's needed. So the main camera view will be completely unobscured and I'll have a secondary view that has all the usual stream into.

I had this video done 2 days ago but some rendering errors kept plaguing it over and over. Which was a bummer because I felt like I was about to get into a highly productive groove. I have the next two videos planned and am working on an outline for the next one right now. So I should get back on

But the rendering is finally all done and working now. I'll have to ignore some parts of editing software I'm using (Davinci Resolve's Fusion) because it seems to be the most GPU intense part of...
