Phonodroid VRChat avatar Big Important release info

Hello! April sure is coming fast, isn't it? Certainly a lot faster than I had originally anticipated when setting a deadline of finishing the Phonodroid VRChat avatar by the end of March.

All this is to say that, well, the model isn't quite ready for release yet. It's getting along very well and is usable, but there is a whole ton of tiny tweaking, animation making, and other behind the scenes stuff that I want to finish up and I feel its ultimately better to push the release back to Ap...

Details update!

I originally had the battery compartment in the upper leg, but I realized that wouldn't work with the speakers going there. The batteries had to shrink a little bit, but they are now located in the back under a conveniently labeled door!

First up: eyes now show 1 at a time when looking at the head from the side using some backface trickery :p (you'll see just how much work went in to making the eyes only visible from certain angles when you get your hands on the model hgfgf).

The functions for lip-syncing are in place! This is my first character to have an actual 3d mouth, woah! The blendshapes are also connected with the record needle and a light flare on the nose so they also move when you talk. I am hoping that this system will work fine with armatures involved, ive never done this kind of thing before... So if i run into issues with it when i get to rigging ill make a post about it.

Adding some color!

I have been taking some time to work more on the materials for the model! My plan for the final is to have a few set materials with each type having its own texture that will be used throughout all the different pieces used for the phonodroid base model and extra content on top of it. This way I can easily keep it low on materials from the start. The textures will of course be editable and will be the main way people can make changes to the colors and patterns that the phonodroid has!

Eyes

I wanted to do camera-following eyes like I have for past models which proved to be quite difficult for this style compared to previous attempts, but I think ive found a solution im pretty happy with using backfaces. I still need to tweak it a bit more and add support for filled in eyes for people that wish to do that just by changing the texture.

Hello! I'm always nervous showing the first WIPs of stuff ;; especially since there is a lot still left to do on this model, but i wanted to get something out there because its been a long time! Hello! I’ve been working on 3D stuff as of late, and Im gonna be posting 4k versions here. This is what I was working on yesterday! The image is in 2160p with a 4:3 aspect ratio, so it should crop nicely to 16:9 as well.

Looking back on it, November has been a pretty good month for me for drawing! Despite needing to take a break for a bit I still managed to get out a lot of pieces that I’m proud of.

How have things been going?

Its been a while since I‘ve done one of these long form writings about how things are going. So how have they been going? Well, it probably comes as little surprise that this year has had a bad effect on me like everyone else. All my original plans have kinda been put on indefinite hiatus, and I’ve of course been stressed and frustrated constantly about how things are handled in my country of residence and across the world. This year has sucked without a doubt.

WIP: all aboard!

putting the object search project on a bit of a hold to work on some other stuff...... first off, a water focused drawing that has been quite fun to do so far!

Work on object search art piece has began! For those of you not caught up to speed, for the longest time I have wanted to make one of these, in the style of something like I Spy or Where’s Waldo. Over the last few months I have put in the work into getting used to larger canvas sizes and doing more complicated detailed drawings preparing for this and I’m so excited to begin actually doing it! It will of course take me a while, so expect multiple WIP posts and other drawings in between now...
