Jenna in the Woods

Before we shot, I asked Jenna Citrus to wear a pair of chucks.  I loved the pair that she brought so we incorporated them in almost every shot we made that morning.

Anna's Fur Coat

Anna started prowling through the closets at the studio where we shot and found this faux fur coat.  It was a great item to play around with in the bed and later we took it outside, where it did double duty as a prop and as a way to keep Anna warm in the brisk spring air.

Am's Robe

More from my shoot with Am Montoya.  This robe was one of the few things she brought with her.

Allie's Reflection

Allie Summers' apartment was a cute little one-bedroom place with a fantastic mirror.  Of course, we had to take advantage of it!

Fil's Boudoir

The bathroom in this hotel was gorgeous.  It had a large picture window above the bathtub with a beautiful view of the ocean.  Of course, everyone in the hotel had a similar arrangement so that you could watch people in half the hotel take their baths if they left the window shades open (and most did).  Japan loves this public privacy thing and works it into a lot of locations.

Trish in the Field

Trish at the time we shot was an active-duty Air Force NCO and an aspiring yogi.  She has since left the service and worked extensively on building her yoga business.

SummerNia in Summer

SummerNia reached out to me because she wanted to start out in modeling.  Modeling was a release from her stressful job as an engineer.  We went out to a local park and started shooting!  Unfortunately, a breeze picked up and blew my light into the pond.  The soaked light stopped working so I swapped it out for another and continued to shoot.  Once home, I left it out to dry.  I was happy to note that after three days of drying out, the light started working agai...

Maria in a Cabin

I absolutely love this cabin and need to do another shoot there.  It is a restored 18th century cabin in rural Virginia.  The owners turned it into an Airbnb, which is booked constantly because of the wonderful way the owners have prepared it.

Layla's Shapes

Layla is an interior designer and she brought her knowledge and interest in shapes into the shoot.  It was a great way to change up a boudoir shoot.

Jenna Outdoors

Jenna Citrus saw this log and immediately started to pose on it.  All I had to do was to grab my camera and start shooting!

Denisa

I've been fortunate to have worked with some wonderful models over the last several years.  Many of my models are local, or work within the region.  Every once in a while, though, I get to work with international models who are prominent in advertising and fine art galleries around the world.  Denisa is one of those models and has appeared in almost every major publication in Europe at one time or another, as well as in several books.

I'm heading out on a major trip and w...

Jenna's Tree

Sorry for the delay, I have a major trip coming up and I've been busy getting ready for it and getting shots for clients processed before I leave.  Here are more shots of the beautiful Jenna Citrus.

Fil on the Balcony

This by far was the most beautiful hotel I've stayed in while in Japan.  It had a great view of the ocean, was large and spacious, and had a huge floor to ceiling window in the bathroom for available light shooting.

Mahjestick in Lingerie

Mahjestick came out to Virginia for a few days to scout the area in preparation for a possible move and wanted to shoot while she was here.  She wanted to do the shoot as part of a live feed for her followers so we hade live video going through the first part of our shoot.

Vintage InnaBG

InnaBG and I originally planned to shoot at 4:00 am because the only time I had to shoot was before I left for work.  Fortunately, she was able to make some last-minute changes to her schedule so we could shoot on the weekend and take advantage of the natural light coming through the window.

"Training" With Ariel

These are from one of my latest shoots.  Ariel Taylor was visiting from the UK so we took the day and drove from place to place shooting.  This was our first stop, and it was quite invigorating.  We were driving through a small town in Maryland, not much more than a main road and a couple of houses behind those on the main drag.  A railroad track paralleled the road.  We saw a train passing through and we had the same idea, let's shoot!  There weren't any cars ar...

Anaya in Lingerie

Anaya Vivien's work almost is exclusively yoga/tantra based.  Doing a traditional boudoir shoot was not something that she had done much of before our shoot.  She brought a good selection of lingerie that she wanted to use during our shoot so we managed to get a fair number of underwear sets in.

Am's Back

Am Montoya found a way to do a lot with very little; little furniture, little wardrobe...  It was a lot of fun exploring different angles and playing with different light setups with her.  I looked for ways to use just one light or natural light.  All in all, we kept the shoot simple.

Dakota's House

It was tricky trying to light in this house as the rooms were small and the corridor very narrow.  There was not much room to set up a light so I often resorted to putting a light in the doorway of a room along the hall.  The yellowish color of the walls helped warm the light as it bounced around.

Gilly's Nightie

I met Gilly Rivera in Seattle.  It had been many years since I last was in Seattle so I was having to find my way around again.  One of the things that you look to do in a new town is to explore the food options.  Gilly mentioned several vegetarian places that she liked to go, as she was vegetarian and did not frequent places that specialize in meat dishes.  I, however, try to limit my vegetable intake as they take up space better filled with meat.  I didn't end up go...

Gurularoo in Shorts

One of the things we tried to depict with this shoot was woman's strength.  Gurularoo chose the location and we went from there.  I knew things were on the right path when I saw her wearing jungle boots.

Layla on the Bed

I used a single speedlight for most of this set, but the first image above is an example of one of the few times during this shoot I used a second speedlight.  Speedlights are my go-to lights because they are small, can fit easily into my carry-on luggage so I don't have to check another bag when I travel, and they are easy to use.  The drawbacks of speedlights are the relatively low power and the inconsistency of the output.

Nichole's Window

I'm glad Nichole Foxx and I rescheduled our shoot because the morning light coming through the window was fantastic and we would have missed it if we had shot the afternoon before, as we originally scheduled.

Bella in the Window

I kept the lighting simple when I shot with Bella Burke, using just one light.  I decided to play a bit with gels and color balance.  I brought out my CTO gel, which colored everything orange, and then changed the color balance to tungsten, bringing Bella back to normal color but changing the outside to blue.

Flying With Alexisorchid

The instructor-pilot that we worked with during this shoot was very helpful.  He moved planes back and forth along the tarmac for us as we wanted to isolate the plane.  He also helped guide Alexisorchid to parts of the plane that was safe to walk on pose on without fear of damaging the plane.

Briella's Room

A huge dog greeted me when I visited Briella Jaden.  She was on the road, traveling up and down the east coast with her dog.  I was a little concerned about my lighting equipment as I set it up because the room was fairly small and the dog took up a large part of the space.  If it moved around too much or wagged its tail too hard, my lights would go flying.  My worry was for naught, though, as the dog was very well behaved and stayed curled up in the corner where Briella s...
