Greg: Every page so far has been designed as a 4 row page structure, this is the first page I drew a 3 row structure. I did this mainly because the characters can be drawn bigger, making it a bit more "intimate".
Thomas: This is supposed to be less of a "rational" conversation and more of an "emotional conversation". In this page Hiro's mother notices that Hiro is not into the conversation; so she asks about his friend, to purposefully establish a more personal connection with him. She's smart, she does understand that he probably doesn't like talking about school that much.

Greg: This page was a bitch to draw. So many backgrounds and complex objects to draw. Also there was so much text to fit in here π A fun fact about this page is that I hid a lot of hexagonal shapes, to hint at the fact that this house is the "beehive".

Thomas: I wanted Val's face not be shown in this page for script purposes. She has a small role here but I wanted to give myself the freedom to reuse her in the future if needed. If we didn't show her face here, we didn't have to set her character design now.
Greg: It was very difficult to find creative ways not to show Val's face. π

Greg: This story is a slice of life where most of the story will take place in this apartment so I wanted to pay more attention to it, make the apartment take space in the page. Also wanted to show a "peaceful" environment that gets suddenly disturbed by the fight between Jacob and Val.

Greg: I came up with "Simple Spirits" originally. The idea was; I want to create a story with people that want to live simply. The story won't necessarily make it easy for them, as there will be drama and stuff. Then, I wanted a fun alliteration, so I did a couple tests and ended up with "Simple Spirits". I drew a couple of pages, I wanted it to be a "Boy Love" story.
Thomas: I remember Greg wanting to make a comic in forever. When he finally wrote one and showed it to me, it felt very... fanfic-y to me. The characters didn't have any depth and it was just "small guy swoons over big guy". I decided to take a go at it and he really loved the way I rewrote the scene. We added Red and Max as we thought those personalities were missing, and fleshed out everyone's backstory.
Now it feels more coherent and I love making these dorks talk to each other in my head and writing it down. I wrote the script in about 5 days, and rewrote a lot of it the year after, and rewrote the ending the year after that. We're really happy with how it is now and can't wait for everyone to read it!

As we're both very busy we decided that we're going to unlaunch our Patreon page starting in November.
For now we "paused" the November billing so pledges won't be automatically renew in case we forget to unlaunch the page.
We'll probably relaunch it sometime in the future.
If there are any questions about this please don't hesitate to ask!

We wanted to let you know that we paused the August 1 billing cycle. This basically means you won't be charged for August, as Greg needs a much-deserved break from some obligations such as Patreon to focus on other things. If I recall correctly you guys won't lose the Patron role because of this.
Thanks again for you guys' continuous support!

The fundamentals of art are: Line, Shape, Color, Light & Shadow, Perspective, Composition, Flow & rhythm.
Though we gave an introduction to those themes, we think it's safe to say that we can still go in depth with all of them.
We assume most of you are interested in Character Design, which is why my classes will be covering the application of those themes for Character Design.
We understand that you might not necessarily want to go back to those themes right away so here are some suggestions that you might not have considered that still use those fundamentals:
- How to step up your line-art game.
- How to draw a room in perspective from a floor plan.
- How to use perspective to make your composition more dramatic.
- How to design an OC (Concept, Shape design, Color design, ... this is a multiple step class)
- How to color skin correctly.
- How to shade your drawings (all the different ways to do it).
- How to use flow & rhythm to draw landscapes.

First of all thank you for being with us for another month!
- The next art class will take place on Saturday, June 12th, at 8pm CET. This class will be about the Loomis Method of Drawing Heads.
- We also want to ask you guys which character you would like to see in an artwork for this month in multiple versions (SFW/NSFW). When we have all of your suggestions we'll put this in a poll on Discord, as we believe this will be checked more than the Patreon page.
If you'd rather have this poll happen here on Patreon, please do let us know!

What is perspective?
What are the different types of perspectives?
How did master painters throughout history used to paint perspective?
What's 1-point and 2-point perspective?
Those are all questions answered in this video β₯
