hi everyone. it's another month -- the last month of 2020.

i made an update after rescheduling, but in case you didn't see it, my surgery got moved to april due to covid-19 concerns. this means i'll be working regularly in december, mainly. can't say for sure it will happen in april; i might push it to may just because of a class i'm going to be taking and for a little extra reassurance.

anyway, i'm not sure what i want to say about this page. it's definitely interesting to give diana this much dialogue, considering she isn't a core character. this is almost 100% a bid for "realism" in the story. it would be strange for only core characters to participate in a setting where many people are kind of "warehoused" together.

something i removed from the dialogue here for the sake of brevity/pacing is carmilla mentioning that it's not difficult to draw a rose or chains because they're both mechanical patterns, and that she used to draw them as a teenager.

update on the surgery thing

what's up everybody, oklahoma's covid-19 cases are through the roof and getting worse. thus, i rescheduled my surgery for mid-april. everything that applied to december, i don't want to say applies to mid-april in case i have to reschedule yet, but they are hoping to do it at the latest by the end of may, so. sometime around then. better safe than sorry imo. RIP to the update image i made for this month, though.

catharsis development session 3: the outline

i haven't written about developments about catharsis for a while... i didn't want to show my face again until something substantial was written: the outline. i can work out an entire comic from an outline, so this is an important step in the script process for me.

for me, an outline includes a summary of what happens in every scene in the comic. the summary for any given scene can range from only a sentence to paragraphs, depending on the details and "beats" that i have in mind.

i'm not sure how much i have to say about this page. i was on the fence about including it at all, because it pretty much cements the arc for carmilla that i'm unsure about. i wasn't sure i could come up with something else for her in such a short amount of time when my mind is more focused on the medical procedure i am having soon.

hi everybody. it's a new month, so a new update.

yes, i am back, and i managed to sketch out, line, and color this page within the last two days, as it was the only way to get back to a normal schedule. some of the models are wonky, but i left them alone if they were... visually interesting.
one of the panels is already shaded because this scene needed a lot more palette articulation than it had previously on page 50. the rest of the page is flatted with the shadows rather than the highlights, so it looks...

something i drew mostly because i try to draw co-consciousness or more specifically entering or exiting it in different ways, and this experience hit me like a truck in terms of how i could draw dupe exploding out of the mouth with recall. sometimes... things ARE just for fun.

time for another doodle dump.

a lot of these ones are meme redraws and concept art for hurts (probably a name i'll be using to differentiate the roach fursona from myself when necessary).

i've had sort of some artistic ennui lately as i've been going through an art low (where you can see better than you can draw, so you notice a lot of flaws in your art suddenly), while having the strong urge to draw more lately, and the meme redraws help with that.

there's a lot going on in a short amount of time here... lupe's personality gets more establishment, and it's also established that she and carmilla (and the staff member here) can speak spanish, which is introduced as a vector to mirror kim's confusion and lack of comprehension about the ward and procedures that everyone else seems accustomed to.

for the night lighting of this scene, i tried a new method of sketching. overall, i think it was worse to sketch it out as nighttime lighting as opposed to trying to color correct for contrast in the shading and coloring phase. it might still be useful for, say, more limited palette scenes in the dark. i don't know.

both of these characters are, at this point, operating heavily on information the readers should have extrapolated or at least entertained by now. it's really hard to trust ...

september 2020

hi everyone. it's wild how it's september already.

first, i'll just repeat what the image says: the new year on the hebrew calendar and the ten days of repentance happen this month, with the last day, yom kippur, being the most intense. you have to not bathe or eat or drink anything for a day and ask people you hurt for forgiveness and pray you don't die next year for being a bad person and such.
i'm trying to become more observant and Educated in general and will probably not do any...
