We did it! The final episode of season 1, and all the speaking characters featured within. This is a fun episode that feels like a lost relic, because of the occasionally goofy animation and the fact that this was supposed to be the first episode, but even by episode 13 the show has evolved somewhat. beyond what it is here.
Lucille is the most important character I suppose but that's stretching the definition of important somewhat.
The NCHC for this episode is a respectab...

After the last couple of numbered entries featured the most nameless and literally faceless characters we've ever encountered, we end the season with perhaps the most famous bonus characters yet! These guys are certainly recognisable, although I'm not sure if they ever speak - we'll have to see!

They are first seen on the show providing mambo music for Homer and Marge's date night, but can be ...

We end the season with a dull thud, another random reporter, same as yesterday:

It is the FINAL week of covering Season 1! We're gonna have a five update week while we finish this episode, then we can move onto episodes people actually like.
What's that? Some people don't consider the "golden era" to start until Season 3? Aw daaaang...
Anyway, here we go with another reporter character that I have to mostly make up myself:

This is all we get of him in the show...

I'm sure you noticed this guy yesterday, he stands out to me.
I hope that when this Patreon project is finally completed in the year 3377, it is seen as a celebration, as a chance to really admire the background nobodies that this show produced. I hope the robots that destroyed humanity take solace in the fact that a small group of people on ...

This is the presenter of America's Most Armed and Dangerous, the show that Bart switches off Happy Little Elves for:

The show is a parody of America's Most Wanted, which had started on Fox on 1988, so was also relatively new at the time. Coincidentally, the Wikipedia page for America's Most Wanted mentions The Simpsons in its

We covered some of the Happy Little Elves back in Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire (back in November 2021 if you can believe it). I think this is a brand new one, but who can tell, honestly? The show quickly forgets about the Happy Little Elves, so there's no need to have them as distinct...

This is a true one timer, the type of character we love around here.

If you go back and listen to the scene, please tell me who you think voices him! IMDB says Hank Azaria, but to my ear I don't think that's right! Let me know your thoughts. Personally I think it's Christopher Collins, who appears in a few season 1 episodes, but I have nothing to back this up.

If you'd like this as an A5 print, stay (or sign up) at the £10 or higher level on this very Patreon and it'll be sent out to you at the start of next month!

Sideshow Bob was the real main "recurring" villain to come out of season 1, but they certainly gave The Babysitter Bandit a good try. She's certainly one of the more memorable characters of the show so far, partially due to a great performance by Penny Marshall, and partially due to the fact that she's really actually quite mean and unpleasant.
Of course, this isn't her only appearance in the show, just her only voiced appearance. Her fugitive status is alluded to in "Bart's Dog Gets An...

Our second voiced character this week is also not voiced by one of the main Simpsons cast - and it's a doozy. This lady is voiced by LEGENDARY voice actress June Foray. I suppose she was "best" known as Granny from Looney Tunes, but this is such a downplaying of her incredible career - just browse her IMDB to see how prolific she was. How many people have been on the original Rocky and Bullwinkle show and the Simpson...

He does have a very similar voice to Arnie Pye, there is some possibility they are indeed the same person, but I'm saying this is Arnie's brother or something, because drawing is fun and this way I get to do extra drawing. Spoiler: this is not the last time I'll have to basically make up a character's appearance in this episode.

Our first character in the final episode of season one is this guy who works on Marvin Monroe's radio show.

I still think this is the best episode of season 1. It sets up a mystery format that will be used several more times and introduces us to one of the most charismatic villains the show has. Not many memorable characters introduced beyond Kent and Bob, but those two loom large.
But we all know what we're here for: the NCHC for "Krusty Gets Busted" is 18.75%, because I'm taking it on faith that Scott Christian isn't wearing a toupée.

The final member of Bob's merchandising team even gets a second distinct line in this scene, so I'm giving him the honour of another screenshot, in which you can see Bob's big honkin' feet (a clue to the mystery of the episode...even though Bob's nefarious actions have already been revealed to the viewing audience.)

The second of Bob's merchandising team. Sadly, a Sideshow Bob water-action pen never materialised in real life. Perhaps if it had, Bob would have held onto it himself, and not had to write so many notes in blood.

I think a "water-action pen" is one of those pens that shows a different image on the side when you turn it upside-down, by the way. One of the biggest novelties of the 1990s, now bare...

Each of these dopes gets one or two lines, and then is never seen again. The first to speak is the lady, who seems very excited about putting Bob's face on a little keychain.

Another one-timer for this week, with a bold outfit choice.

Some bold passionate online discourse* rages on surrounding this guy's name. Disney+ has Bob call him "Ed", where Frinkiac says "Ted". I believe Frinkiac takes the DVD subtitles as a source so these are both official versions - we may never know his true name.
If you're thinking "they're both short for Edward, his name is Edward...

Bob's intellectual takeover of Krusty's show is in full swing and, against conventional wisdom, is a hit.

This reveal of Bob as sophisticated and cultured, with Frasier's voice coming from him, was a joke of sorts - the idea that this sideshow clown would be reading The Man In The Iron Mask and singing a jazz classic is absurd juxtaposition. We're used to Bob being the way he is that it's easy...

Got a pretty uneventful week I'm afraid, as we don't have a lot of familiar faces left in this episode. This lady reads the jury's verdict in Krusty's trial.
