A bit of a false impression of Germany

I suggested to send one of the LoRa nodes flying with helium balloons. The Chinese developer didn't think that was such a good idea tho.

Had a good laugh at the thought of a fighter jet squadron buzzing by to shoot my colorful party balloons :)

Embedded LEDs in a flexible 3D print

Last minute Reddit Secret Santa gift for a dog owner: 3D printed flexible LED collar

Besides the LEDs there's also a battery and a charge controller embedded in the infill structure. I've just paused the print for 5 minutes and squeezed it all in. Then I've epoxied magnets on both ends so that they only fit together in the right orientation.

The magnets of one side are connected to the battery+/- and charge +/-, the magnets on the other side are connected to the LEDs +/- and nothing. Whe...

Censoring makes this especially exciting

Maybe it's just a Keithley T-shirt (which would be awesome come to think of it ... ) or maybe it's a huge 50" touch screen scope like the one that Applied Science used recently?

We may never know because it might not even make it through customs ...

Monthly payment schedule Act 3

Alright, the vote ended in favor of switching to the monthly payment schedule.

To everyone and to those, who voted against it especially, I wanted to say again, that I appreciate your support a ton. But Patreon is not a crucial part of my livelihood (yet). So if you want to show them what you think about their new policies by leaving, you can totally do so.

Seeing someone leave doesn't feel good, but I understand the reason and of course everyone is welcome to return at any time.

Poll: Monthly payment schedule

My last question about this was purely based on a private message I got from a new patron. What a weird coincidence, that the day after that a rearrangement of Patreon, Inc. fees were announced. I absolutely didn't know about that.

The most important change I can see in wall of text is, that patrons will see a 2.9% + $0.35 service fee added to every single paid post.

Now people who enjoy goofy electronics videos on YouTube are most likely upper middle class ...

Now this ... this is one sexy stepper motor

I think general purpose cnc machines don't need encoder feedback, because step loss is almost always audible. But since I am still pursuing my ideal-machine-agenda, I think I'll use these hybrid stepper motors with built-in rotary encoders.

Proper glass linear encoders on the moving parts of the machine would be even better, but that would be a huge overkill, wouldn't it?

After trying no less th...

For the holidays

Since I still didn't manage to get a newer source measure unit I wanted to try and DIY one soon. With modern components I think it isn't nearly as difficult as older Keithley gear makes it look. Also µA sensitivity is absolutely sufficient for me, but once I get that working, I could look into nA and maybe even pA?

I think a 3 channel model would be much more useful than just 3 times the usefulness of 1 channel, because it could be used as a curve tracer for 3 pin semiconductors, analyzer for...

Something bigger?

Friend of mine has a large ISO container and wants to equip it with a lot of electronics: Battery, Lights, Surveillance, door locking, global GPS tracking and remote control ...

Would that be interesting?

Any ideas for things I should suggest?

With pretty high speed too, as can be seen by the squiggly lines. Those are from vibrations after a fast deceleration.

And with almost no fine-tuning, as can be seen by the 'leftovers' in between some pads ...

Exciting stuff if I may say so ...
